ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Government of the Virgin Islands has revised the territory’s Curfew Order to run from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am for a period of fourteen days with an initial review after the first seven (7) days.

The order will commence from tonight, Saturday, August 7, 2021, and includes new provisions for some restricted businesses to be allowed to operate with the exception of nightclubs and entertainment centres.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) made the announcement last evening, August 6, 2021, and noted that hairdressers, barbershops, spas, restaurants will now be allowed to re-open.

“Such businesses are expected to operate within the established restriction limits of one (1) person per 36 square feet to a maximum occupancy of 50 persons, all-inclusive of staff and patrons,” he said.

School programmes allowed to operate

COVID-19 measures are still expected to be carried out where all businesses and workplaces will now have a duty to continue to restrict numbers to 1 person per 36 square feet with a limit of up to 50 persons at a time, per location, subject to adequate social distancing protocols being maintained.

The Minister said pre-schools, childcare centres, summer programmes and extra-curricular activities will also be allowed to re-open within the limitations of the social distancing and public health protocols.

Hon Malone said businesses can expect to be subject to spot checks by the Social Distancing Task Force, the Environmental Health Division and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to ensure that measures are being strictly adhered to regarding the COVID-19 suppression guidelines.

Mr. Malone, and those who is in a hurry: I just can’t understand this, with how you think. What’s the crazy rush here AGAIN to RUSH and open wide??? Life and health seems less important than nail shop? Sitting in a Restaurant’? Gyms? Going to a club? Why not wait a few more weeks to allow this deadly virus to go down more or under better control? You looking for another big breakout? When the NEW DELTA PLUS arrives, what? Yes there is a NEW DELTA PLUS. It will get to the BVI, to create more havoc. The Government in a rush, will only cause bigger issues. 37 already dead, and counting, do you think it is wise to open to please the few who is complaining? Sad to say, but the hurry to open, will again make matters bad. Slow down Sir, life and health must be put above the Almighty $. For the love of God, life, health, save lives, and a better day ahead, stop and think wisely for everyone, not the few who making noise.

  • Pressure benders wise up! 11:00 pm too late. (07/08/2021, 12:42) Like (3) Dislike (12) Reply
Some relaxing was needed, but where is the justification for 11:00 pm? You know our history in the B.V.I. you say 11:00, we streach it to 11:30pm. Had you said 10:00 pm, we would be home by 10:30 to 11:00 pm.
Barber shops, and hair dressing spar, where in the B.V.I is there a barber shop or hairdressing spar where 50 persons gather? Twenty-five (25) persons each for hair dressing spar, and barer shop a more expected number.
I thing that I do understand some of the pressure that you are feeling, Hon. Carvin Malone, due to the covid-19 crisis, that has resulted in an unexpectedly high death number. If I was in you seat, I too will feel the heat, and react to pressure. However, what is done is done. You have sympathy this time. I must admit, you are trying hard under much pressure. There is a saying, only he or she who has shoes on, knows how they feel.
Flexibility is necessary some times, but don't over flex. If you do, others may double overflex.

the big issue in the British Virgin Islands is the enforcement of the laws: until such time we will always have an issue

What is the rush to open more places. Look like we don't learn you just had a full weekend people partying and you open up 2 days after. May as well you leave the country open completely. Why couldn't you wait at least 7 more days after to see if there is a spike.

We are down to one digit per day or week in cases I bet you 2 digits plus may arise out of this foolish act. Any way you all have to give account for all that you allow to happen under your watch.

For the life of me I can't understand. Something not adding up its impossible to not take that into consideration. History don't repeat it self new records are set. Wait and see what bad decisions does. Few more days just a few can cost the territory.

Open up little by little other wise just stop this foolishness and open totally let the country run until it can't go no more. You worrying about economy if you don't have life how will you get or spend money. Tired of you foolishness

The health system in the BVI is terrible. Some of the Doctors and nurses have no empathy. Emergency Room at the hospital serves little or no purpose. They treat you as if you should not be there. To be an effective health worker you have to love helping people not to become one just for show.

I must give kudos to the doctors in the emergency room they really worked unlike most of the nurses who take for ever to come to the aid of the patients i was there from high day spent the night only once i see a nurse i was in a area by myself no one came to check on me the service in the emergency room feom the nurses are sloppy.
