Neighborhood Pride – SDA Bellevue Pathfinder Club Helps Keep Their Community Clean
The enthusiastic youth found a variety of litter including glass and plastic bottles, cans, household items, car parts, etc. Much of this was found in some areas that seemed to be informal dumping grounds for passers-by even though trash bins are placed in easy access along the roadway.
The youth learned the importance of keeping their neighborhood and surroundings clean, and seemed to enjoy the exercise although at first the 7:30 a.m. starting time found many of them sleepy. When reviewed afterwards, they all seemed satisfied with the cleaner appearance of the surroundings and showed a deeper appreciation for caring for the environment. Passersby also appreciated the efforts of the club, and the youth even earned a verbal commendation from D5 Representative Hon. Delores Christopher who was driving by at the time.
The Pathfinder Club is an auxiliary arm of the world-wide Seventh-day Adventist Church and is geared towards teens aged between 10-15. This branch of the Club meets weekly on Saturday afternoons at the SDA Bellevue Church located in Manchester, where members learn spiritual, social and lifestyle skills. Extracurricular activities such as camping skills, arts and crafts, marching and drilling, star-gazing and more are encouraged through the use of active participation and Honour Courses.
