NDP ran water line in Sea Cows Bay which is 'connected to nothing'- Hon Fraser
During his official campaign launch at Finc Building at Sea Cows Bay on April 1, 2023, Hon Fraser outlined all of his past achievements, noting that some people have selective memories.
“And I don’t mind reminding them because I’ve become their conscience,” he said.
One such achievement he pointed out was the Sea Cows Bay Water Plant which he noted was commissioned in 2003 following his intervention, after he had made a promise to change and improve the water quantity and quality in the community.
“It ran for 10 years since that date, producing over 350,000 gallons of water a day, more than enough for the people of the Third District. The plant was closed by the NDP government in 2013 without a replacement.
“And all this time my opponent, who has now switched Parties was right there with the NDP, because he ran on their ticket in 2011…and now he’s got the gumption to come talk about water shortage in Sea Cows Bay. The people who you associate yourself with are responsible for it. I’m not taking blame for that,” Hon Fraser said.
'Water line connected to nothing'
The veteran legislator related that in 2018 the NDP installed a water line from Meyers to Chalwell after claiming that the water line was too small.
“That water line is still there, connected to nothing, nothing on the Meyers end, nothing on the Chalwell end. It’s a… water line, over a mile long. You talking about money, you talking about nonsense. Let him talk that,” Hon Fraser said.
He added: “Talking about what they’re gonna do if they get elected. The word ‘if’ is important, remember that- ‘if’ they get elected. But you know it ain’t ‘gon happen.”
Hon Fraser then went on to boast that over his 24 years as a Representative, he has been around the earth and has championed the cause locally, regionally and internationally.
Hon Fraser blasted for 'costly' BiWater
The challenges with water were also highlighted by Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Third District Candidate Mr Kevin C. Smith aka ‘OJ’ during his official campaign launch in Sea Cows Bay on March 29, 2023.
Mr Smith had also slammed the controversial Biwater project spearheaded by Hon Fraser in 2010 as a “costly mistake”, noting that it still hasn’t fixed the water woes being experienced by the territory.
In fact, Mr Smith said this only made the situation worse by creating an economic leakage of cash to a foreign company which o longer circulates in the economy.
Back in December 2021, however, Hon Fraser claimed he was not solely responsible for the controversial water-purchase agreement during his time as Minister for Communications and Works.
