LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI- In a bold move, Opposition parties National Democratic Party (NDP) and its breakaway group the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) will endorse Independent Candidate Perline R. Scatliffe-Leonard for the Seventh District.

Senior sources in both parties have told our news center this on condition of anonymity, and it is expected to happen this week. It is unclear if the one-man Progressives United (PU) headed by Hon Julian Fraser from District 3 will do the same.

Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard, according to a recent poll obtained by our news centre, is about 10 to 15 % points behind the incumbent Seventh District Representative and Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley. Some residents and outside observers still claim there will be an upset in D7, with a possible Scatliffe-Leonard win.

‘I am staying independent’- Scatliffe-Leonard

Mrs Scatlifee-Leonard, the former Director of Water and Sewerage Department (W&SD), has consistently refused to join any of the two Opposition political parties who have asked and met with her over joining. She continues to maintain that her committee wants her to run as an Independent Candidate.

NDP At Large Candidate and former Seventh District Representative Dr Kedrick D. Pickering personally endorsed Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard during a joint campaign meeting at The Stickit on March 15, 2023.

It is unclear if the endorsement of the two Opposition parties, also referred to as NDP 1 & 2, will move the needle for Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard’s candidacy.

'Both PVIM & NDP need to push Perline'- Skelton-Cline

Political commentator Claude O. Skelton-Cline, who has been affiliated with NDP and VIP and is now pushing PVIM, has said he sees Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard winning the Seventh District seat but both the NDP and PVIM need to “push Perline”.

“That’s the way she is going to win,” Mr Skelton-Cline stated on his Honestly Speaking show on ZBVI 780 AM on March 11, 2023.

Dr Wheatley is the chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and one of the campaign issues by supporters of the incumbent is if D7 will exchange a Premier for someone who could end up on the back bench, on the Opposition, or just a Junior Minister.

A former candidate who was expected to run with the NDP but dropped out of the race, Kevon S. Lettsome, last month endorsed Dr Wheatley, saying he is the best person to represent the district and run the country.

The 2023 General Election is scheduled for April 24, 2023, with Advanced Voting on April 21.

We will bring more information as this story develops.

I see Claude pushing Perline, but we know it is only because Natalio rightly called him out as an opportunist and told him his trough has dried up under the VIP!!! LOL. The Seventh District is not foolish to take out a bright young man who has proven himself in times of adversity. His leadership under the circumstances has been admirable and will only serve to make him a stronger Premier for the future. The electorate is right. Why take out a premier for a backbencher? Do I need to talk about her accomplishments at Water & Sewerage Department? Oh dear, there is nothing much to talk about! So Claude, go sit down with your foolishness. Perline is a good soul but Natalio is the man for this time. D7 aint playing.

Are these politicians talking about improving the Government yet endorsing Perline? Am I reading this correctly? The women managed at Water & Sewerage for over 10 years, leaving it worse than ever. I am to believe she would do better elected to office. Crazy people yes,

You all know that Natalio did a lousy job in all of his portfolios but still want him there. . It's a set of pitiful people. Sowande 's district is in a deplorable condition. People need to put district above self. Give the woman a chance. Sowande promised better than Kendrick did but did not deliver. Anyone who votes for him is not thinking about their district welfare or others. It's a sad time in the BVI. We deserve better leaders.

@ district 7 resident I also live in the 7 Sowanda may not have accomplished what he wanted to do see the situation he has inherited but compare to pickering who was there for 20 absolutely nothing alot of people on the outside say this and that until they get in the drive seat of a minister position it's easier said than done. Sowanda need a next chance to complete the task at hand, Perline not ready for this task right now it's a intelligent person that is needed. The UK is on our back's this is not time for poppy show.

Is for sensible Normal to play with our Politics and Kendrick Pickering slip through the Noose and get back in the people's seat
Why Do I Say this? You got my attention.David Johnson, one of Kedrick Pickering Rich White Friends is selling house lots at Oil Nut Bag for upwards of 3-Million Dollars. As if Mjohnson needs more wealth Kendrick allededly Signed a Water Rights to the entrance of YCCS for a period of 99 Years. What sense does that make? Water Rights meands that the holder of those rights controls who fishes, sails over, Fishes and Dives on for the duration of 99 Years. The Irma Hurricane destroyed YCCS, but the Owners wanted to spend their own money's and Rebuild it. Johnson allegedly decided that it can't happen,, and won't let it happen. Hon Vincent approached MrmJohnson to informed him that his Water rights deal would be Cancelled. Realizing that a Lawsuit by Johnson could have run into Millions of Tax Payers moneys.nleaving Hon Vincent to backup and leave it alone, while nobs are hijacked and a Poorer E conomy. Thank you Hon Vincent. Pico you are causing Nightmares

People of the 7th do not vote out the chief for a back bencher. Pauline will not do anything she promise. Just look at how water and sewage was run. You do not need anything more clear than that. I am sticking to the Chief. Voting for Pauline will only set the district back.

A marriage of convenience and desperation, lacking the draw and ability to attract another candidate. Dr. Pickering represented this district for 20 years and there is nothing to show for those 30 years even though he serve as Deputy. He could not dare decide to run again in D-7 Rep. Missing the status he is trying his luck at the at large. If one could not effectively represent a single district days school chiren. How can one represent the whole territory at larger? Dr. Pickering is anointing the Former Director of Water and sewage for the D-7 rep. How does he explain the abject failure and chaos at Water and Sewage? Truth be told how can anyone explain the failure. People should positively demonstrate the capacity and capability to perform effectively in positions of increasing responsibilities. Can anyone honestly can say this was the case? The Peter Principle is promoting someone to a level of responsibility to which they fall.

Pearline is a NDP in the making, do not be fooled. Why do you think NDP pull the candidate they had to run in the 7th and put him at large? Because if she wins then she will just switch to NDP. They need to stop playing games.
