‘NDP practicing bold face corruption’ – Hon Andrew A. Fahie
He made the remark during a meeting on Saturday May 23, 2015 at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre in Sea Cows Bay for which Honourable Julian Fraser RA, being incumbent candidate for the Third District, was the main speaker.
Hon Fahie stepped on the toes of the National Democratic Party some months ago when he accused that party in Government as being the most corrupt in the modern history of the territory.
“For bringing prosperity back to this country and for getting rid of victimisation and bold face corruption and all those other things we will say thank you God for looking down on this BVI,” he said on Saturday, saying that there will be a holiday on June 9, 2015 in order to give praises and thanks to God for a VIP victory.
“Because cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching is the thing on June 8,” he said. He said that when the National Democratic Party cannot account for all these monies that are outstanding due to the abrupt ending of the Second House of Assembly, he said one must get out their calculator to start adding.
“When you add up that $19 million in unpaid invoices you know you will go cha-ching! When you add up that $20 million that they don’t want to account for in the cruise pier project, you know you could add up cha-ching! When you add up that $100 million of over expenditure and other financial transactions, you know you could go cha-ching!” he said.
He cited also the amount of money spent on consultants when the same Government said that they could not afford to pay the public servants their increments since 2011.
“These guys here going with your money and trying to justify it. But when they come to your homes and they done tell you everything, tell them to wait and get a pen and paper and start add up,” he said.
Banks don’t bounce cheques when there is cash
Referring to the recent announcement by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith that the Government had at the end of 2014 $90 million in the bank, Honourable Fahie questioned how it was that the Government had this money and yet their cheques were dishonoured by the commercial banks.
“Usually cheques bounce if you’re in overdraft and something ain’t get passed. But I never hear you have $90 plus million in the bank and these lil cheques come in and they bounce,” he said.
He said more and more than ever schools are doing fundraisers to get chalk, photocopying machines and other needed tools and supplies. “Yet the Minister of Finance gone proudly on the radio and say that he has $90 plus million in the bank. Man go and take out that money and get the school supplies for the children,” he said.
I can't believe these figures
Honourable Fahie said because of the inconsistencies in the numbers given it is hard for him to believe whatever comes out of the Government in terms of figures.
“How could you believe these figures when you have a Minister of Finance that came to the House of Assembly and gives four to five different balances for accounts for monies spent? For one question you get four to five different figures as the balances and now we must trust that the one figure that he come telling us of $90 million that was in the bank in December 2014 is correct,” Hon Fahie said.
The ever vigilant Hon Fahie has been criticised by the National Democratic Party (NDP) members who have challenged him to produce the evidence of corruption, however, Hon Fahie has maintained his stance that the NDP is practising corruption and their refusal to answer questions of transparency on spending and producing accurate information to the House of Assembly are enough evidence that the ruling NDP is corrupt.

I once used a cheque to pay my electricity bill, two days later they turned off my current. When i then went
to electricity to inquire i was told the cheque returned insufficient funds,Ithen went to the bank and was told
they did not know what happened but there was indeed more fund there to cover the cheque.they in turn had
to waive the return cheque fee because it was their fault.
