NDP base of supporters eroded because of lack of trust- Bishop Cline
Bishop John I. Cline, former Chairman of the BVI Health Services Authority Board, says the Opposition is not ready for snap elections.
“I don’t think we should hurry with it at this time because, right now the other side is not organised in a way to put up any formidable challenge,” Bishop Cline said while a guest on the Fresh Radio Vybz show hosted by Paul A. Peart aka Gadiethz, on Friday December 22, 2017.
His statement could be supported by the fact that, according to President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru, the party is rebuilding almost from scratch.
“The only confirmed person who is going to be running right now is Hon Andrew A. Fahie [R1]. We are looking for candidates. We need a new generation of leaders who are willing to step forward and we need the older persons to be able to mentor and pass the baton,” Mr Wheatley added while speaking on Fresh Radio Vybz on Tuesday November 28, 2017.
New leaders need to prepare themselves
According to Bishop Cline, aspiring politicians need to get themselves prepared for the next elections.
“The next election, and looking forward to that, is where all those who wish to be in power and those who wish to lead us need to prepare themselves and put forward their vision for the country that people can listen too.”
NDP base support eroded
He further explained that persons are no longer voting based on loyalty to a party. The National Democratic Party NDP or the VIP may have taken comfort in that they have base supporters, and I have seen, especially for the NDP, I have seen their base eroded because they are not trusted anymore,” said Mr Cline, who was a staunch supporter of the NDP.
The lack of trust for the NDP is also evident within their own party and there is a great divide in the party. However, there is also a rift in the VIP as well. Many felt the nasty public battle for the Leader of the Opposition post in February 2017, between the then leader Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and the present leader Hon Andrew A. Fahie, has done tremendous damage to the VIP.
Like Bishop Cline said on the programme, “You cannot lead a whole country when you are split in two.” Though he was referring specifically to the NDP’s ability to lead the Territory forward, it is also applicable to the VIP.

Please. A man that let D****a walk all over him at rtw
I am no politician but I know that now more than ever the bvi needs a stand up leader. Just a simple shift in attitude can make that much of a difference.
I believe politicians need to come together for a greater good. Forget about “we”and start thinking about the people of the nation and I mean all people, Belongers and non Belongers alike.
A lot of nonsense comes along with politics. Red tape here. Does and don’ts there. People always disagreeing, infighting etc. Its a tough job to serve the people. Hats off to all you politicians out there.
When any pastor/priest/minster say anything about the ills plaguing our society, it's persons like you who quick to call down the churches. When anything goes wrong and they say it's our owna action that caused these things some persons in the church as well as the church itself cannot catch a break with these blogs. All the negative stuff posted on these blogs does amaze me.
