ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The National Unity Government led by Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has submitted a proposal on governance to United Kingdom (UK) Overseas Territories (OTs) Minister Hon Amanda A. Milling and hopes it will be considered instead of direct rule, which the people of the Virgin Islands have rejected.

The National Unity Government, which was sworn in by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG on May 5, 2022, is being proposed as the alternative to direct rule, which was strongly recommended in the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Report.

New Gov’t holds 1st Caucus & Cabinet Meeting

Dr Wheatley, during a live broadcast on May 11, 2022, said the coalition government has been in a series of meetings to map the way forward for the Virgin Islands.

The new government held its first Caucus on Monday, May 9, 2022, and this was described as “very productive” by Premier Wheatley.

Its first Cabinet meeting was held on May 11, 2022.

Proposal on governance submitted to Hon Milling

“I am pleased to report on behalf of the Government of National Unity that I have submitted a proposal to UK Minister for the Overseas Territories, The Right Honourable Amanda milling, that sets out our approach to reform and presents a framework for the implementation under continued democratic governance.”

Dr Wheatley said the proposal represents the territory’s commitment to good governance and strengthening institutions and systems of government. “We want to engender a new culture in the handling of the people’s business.”

The new Premier said he hopes Minister Milling and the UK government “will give due consideration to the proposal and not go down the path of direct rule. We stand ready to walk as partners with the UK and in close cooperation with Governor [John J.] Rankin.”

Meanwhile, Dr Wheatley said the Government of National Unity will soon come to the public to explain its "firm plans" to improve governance, along with plans to ensure the proper management of society.”

You so want to be ruled over by your master that a new group trying to take responsibility to fix what the elder politicians that you voted for did is a frustration...c'mon Dick
They should be trying to get their act together, remember these were all junior and new blood that were wrongly influenced by business as usual. They are doing the right thing. It is up to us to fix us or we will always need an overlord.

If you want the UK rule you then just go to the Uk but leave the ancestors of slaves to chart their own destiny here in the BVI

Hey laughable: the ancestors of slaves that have charted our own destiny? Who dat? Presumably you mean let the descendants of slaves chart their own destiny. This has not worked out well around here as a number of slave descendants have seen fit to make economic slaves of other descendants by mismanagement of the public purse. Nobody from the UK put the Territory in its current position.

Unity is only possible when a group, a team, a family or a government are of the same mindset. It has never, nor will it ever be possible among humans with competing views. To believe different is illusiona, even more so among BVI politicians.
Like wrote before, the people of the UK will never accepted a government in their to rule without an opposition, because they know humans everywhere in this world differ in views on different issues. So what have or is causing the people of the British Virgin Islands to even thinks that unition among politicians 3 a reality, especially BVI politicians?
My people, remember this word, whether or not you choose to ccepted or not accept: "Their is no honour among thieves." Unity government on this planet earth is nothing short of a mythical illusion of the human mind. Believed it not. Received it or not.

I do admit that there a many simile citizens in the BVI. For that same reason our local politicians and others have taken advantagged of us for many years, particular they have robbed is os on multmillions. The dollars of our finances. Issue why we are in the big mess that we are now in is a financial issue deliberate mismanagement of our finances.
        Question:
Do you and others like you really believe that the only the former Premier Andrew Fahie knew that he was corrupted, and the other Ministers were completely ignorant of at least none of his evil behaviours? No, no, no, only simile persons like you and others with below average comprehension have accepted their lame excuses as truth.
The UK government deserves a certain amount of time to help ease the burden of our black skin finances-robbing Slave Masters (politicians). Only real senile people like you and other of your racist mindset are haters better, much better, government.

I read posted, a few days ago where on man admitted that he would prefer five (5( Andrew Fahie than one(1) than white man..
I put it to you the of us two, one of us us truly sinile. You are the simile one, not me. When a people of any, country, as we are now, has be taken advantage for such a long time, as we have, you tell me, if you do have above normal understanding, the disadvantage of direct rule, for a limited time, to help ease the, particular financial pressure off the backs of the poor?
In addition to that, do you really believe, especially at a time like this that the UK want to carry the load if the BVI political mess on its back willingly for a long period of time? Wake up dreamer. Wake up, quickly.

Former dethroned Premier Andrew Fahie disgusting, shameful and embarrassing saga aside, the BVI people performance has been disappointing and head hanging shameful. For example, play the tape of pastors meeting with Minister for OTs Amanda Milling, Governor John Ranking, etc. The report is that most pastors behavior was performative. They showed out. It was a step and fetch minstrel show performance. They threw the BVI and its people under the train over and over, creating laughter for the minister and the guv. I dare the UK to release the tape, the information of the meeting. It won’t. It was a master-slave performance, telling the people what they wanted to hear, reinforcing their stereotype of Black people as inferior, etc. Some saw the UK as the parent and the BVI as chiren that needs a licking to them. Play the tape. The pastors as the tory goes were step and fetch minstrel characters not BVI patriots. Their supposed performance was a clear example of self hatred and Sambo behaviour. Shame, Shame, Shame.

What pastors attended the meeting Amanda Milling and John Rankin? Was the meeting recorded? If the pastors were representing the the BVI, why don’t brief the BVI on what was discussed at the meeting? But if the reporting is true, they may be shame and embarrassed. Did they sell the BVI people down the river? It sounds like it.

No we have not rejected direct rule. Person who oppose direct rule are those who benefit from the government year after year after year. It is time the nonsense stops and the playing field is even for all. We call our selves Christian community, but what really is so Christian like about us. We speak ill of each other, we against the gays but we fornicate and commit adultery. We need to be disciplined as we cannot do it for ourselves. The one set of people will still be beneficiaries of the government pocket which should not be happening
