National League: 1st win for One Love & Positive; VG United remain unbeaten
The win, secured courtesy of a Levon Williams goal in the 5th minute of added time at the end of the game, saw VG reach 12 points and extend the winning streak to four games. Their cross-town rivals, Sugar Boys, have 11 points in second place and the Islanders have 10 points to be in third.
“It was a very good, hard-fought game and credit must go to our opponents and their coaches, for coming up with a plan and nearly making it work,” commented VG United manager Jermain Abrams.
“They came with a solid low block and it took us a while to break them down, but we created the better chances and despite them putting us constantly under pressure we deserved to come out with the win,” Abrams added.
Adrian Padilla Adams opened the scoring for VG in the 71st minute, before Rogel Noel equalised for the Islanders in the 77th.
One Love off the mark!
Defending champions, One Love FC also kickstarted the defense of their title, securing their first win of the season, 7-1, against Lion Heart FC, with goals coming from Julian Davidson, Rushedo Robinson, Chavaughn Williams, who all scored from the penalty spot, Jhon Samuel Labrega, Latriel Williams and a brace from Colin Lavia.
“We came together as a team and worked hard on getting this win,” noted One Love coach, Javon Carty.
“We missed a lot of chances, but we did what we had to do, and kudos goes to our younger players who played really well, scored goals, made saves, and did what they had to do,” Carty added.
In other results, the Panthers had a hard-fought 3-0 win over Rebels FC, which saw them climb to fifth in the standings, with goals coming from Prevel Asson (31st and 80th minutes) and Prident Rosier (45th +1).
1st win for Positive
Positive FC got their first win of the campaign, 2-1, against Old Madrid FC as a 69th-minute own goal handed them all three points after Richard Welcome had levelled the game for Old Madrid in the 67th minute, having conceded the opening goal of the game, straight after the half time break, to Nicardo Dixon.
