BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI - The Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Kye M. Rymer (R5), has revealed that the National Business Bureau (NBB) will open an office on Virgin Gorda.

Hon Rymer revealed this while guest-hosting Honestly Speaking on April 7, 2026, on ZBVI 780 AM. The NBB is an entity within the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, which was established specifically for the development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.

The government, he said, is working to build a competitive economy.

“I must say that true progress, it must be inclusive, and we are talking about where no island will be left behind, so the National Business Bureau they’re establishing offices on Virgin Gorda, and they’ll be increasing their presence on Anegada and Jost van Dyke as well.”

Hon Rymer said all the sister islands will now have the opportunity to reach out to the NBB and discuss with someone regarding their ambition of entrepreneurship.

“So if you live on a sister island, you want to start a business, you shouldn’t have to take a ferry to go to Tortola to fill out paperwork and all that stuff because we know how tedious that can be and time-consuming as well, so we are going to be bringing those services to you.”

Cultivating a globally competitive business sector

Hon Rymer added that the government recognises that small businesses are the bedrock of any economy and therefore has a mission to fortify that approach in the VI.

“So we look to navigate the opportunities here for small business, and the mandate is clear, and we are here to cultivate a resilient, innovative and a globally competitive small business sector through the department and the strategic synergy and the unwavering support.”

The minister said the government is not just talking about helping small businesses but is actually starting to help them.
