ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islands News Online’s sources in the Office of the Governor has confirmed that current Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development Mrs Natalie J. Fahie-Smith is tipped to be the Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation.

According to the same source, she was recommended by the Public Service Commission (PSC), and the UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce has signed off on the recommendation.

A qualified Virgin Islander

It is unclear when she will take office as the new PS in the said Ministry, however, she comes to the table with years of experience as a public officer. She holds a Master’s Degree and is a Virgin Islander.

Mrs Fahie-Smith is the wife of the current General Manager of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) and former Financial Secretary, Dr Neil N. Smith.

Efforts to get a comment from Mrs Fahie-Smith were unsuccessful.

The current Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation is Mrs Sophia Cupid-Berkeley. 

Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is the Minister for the Ministry of Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation.

Permanent Secretaries serve as the Chief Advisor on the strategic management, leadership and execution of subjects within their assigned ministries. They oversee the overall coordination and administration of the ministry and ensure the effective administration of the ministry and that all activities are carried out in accordance with government policies, procedures and global standards.

    If this is news.....Agriculture and Fisheries needs help at that place. It does not have a leader at that department. People asked the staff and hear for yourself, that place going or already gone deep to the dogs. If I had to point out things the PS igwe needs to get them in check.... KS LM BD AE NG VR MB MG doing a lot private work on government time conflict of interestsssss, plus their dressing are for the streets. they know who they are leggings or flip flops needs to be address. Trust visit that department and see for yourself coming to work around 9:45am or 10am. Oh my I visit the Abattoir I could not believe they have a cleaner, nasty I took a picture and I return again to collect my meat with a friend and same the restroom nasty. Why have a clean that clean minium, just remove and replaced simple.
