ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially beginning on June 1, 2020, local insurance company NAGICO Insurances is encouraging the public to be vigilant this Hurricane Season and to implement precautionary measures.

The insurance company in a release has warned that experts say this year will be ‘an extremely active’ season, with at least eight hurricanes predicted and 17 named storms.

Research Scientist Phil Klotzbach, from the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University said, "In general, the consensus between seasonal hurricane forecasts this year is greater than it has been the past few years. The current Atlantic sea surface temperature setup is consistent with an active Atlantic hurricane season.”

Make time for preparation - Ms Shaquilla Smith

NAGICO’s Assistant Manager, Customer Service Department, Ms Shaquilla Smith commenting on the severity of the storms said, “It is with this in mind that we would like to remind everyone of the value of preparation and the need to make sufficient time for it.”

Ms Smith added, “We are urging home and business owners to contact us if they want to check the status and revisit the adequacy of their policies, or if they require insurance or additional coverage for their assets. Remember, disasters do not prepare but you can.”

Hurricane season begins in June and continues officially until November 30, 2020. The company has warned that the COVID-19 pandemic has already caused financial hardship, as such, the hurricane season should not be taken lightly.

Funny the talk about NAGICO, when to have paid out for all their claim following the 2017 hurricanes. But one of Caribbean Insurer’s company’s went bust leaving many personal insurance clients and the country’s airport unpaid but no one mentions this and continue to insure with this company when payment following a disaster is so uncertain. Something just doesn’t seem right!

Are you are of this situation, where is the article which speaks to the airport in SXM overstating their claim which in the end led to the court requesting NAGICO a much lower sum than what was claimed for. Individuals always presents convenient information and does not always present the entire story.
