‘My spirit is not in tune with the things that are going on’ -Dr Pickering
In his launched last evening, Tuesday, February 12, 2019, in front of about a 100 persons at the Stickett, Dr Pickering who was chased out of the NDP 1 by controversial leader, Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL), said “I am standing alone as an independent because, clearly, my spirit is not in tune with the things that are going on.”
PVIM endorsed Dr Pickering
Dr Pickering also picked up the endorsement of Apostle Curnal P. Fahie an At-Large Candidate and his Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) aka ‘NDP 2’. The party led by Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), another one who was chased out of the NDP 1 he founded is now rallying behind Dr Pickering as he seeks re-election in the Seventh District.
However, Dr Pickering has refused to run with the same party that has endorsed him, instead, doing an independent bid.
Dr Pickering also gave his personal endorsement of Mr Fahie. The representative who also talked about his travels around the globe, noted that he could not return to the Walwyn led NDP 1 because “I cannot support the politics of disunity”.
Experience matters
Dr Pickering also boasts about his 20 years in office and noted, "Experience matters”. He warned the residents of District 7, “Our country is going to face some major, major challenges over the next four years. It doesn’t matter who is elected. We have major, major issues to contend with.”
He said he has been loyal to his friends and to the seventh district and stated, “We are going to need persons in the House of Assembly [and] the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands who understand how regional and international events affect our daily lives” he said to loud applause.
Dr Pickering is facing Hipolito D. Penn of NDP1 and Dr Natalio D. Wheatley aka 'Sowande Uhuru’, of the the Virgin Islands Party (VIP).

Alot of us went to st. Thomas and america to make better lives. What if these countries have the same mentality with this born here attitude calling us island poeople.
We operate as if we dont need people. No man is an island. 80% percent of our infrastruture are built by expatriates. 80% of the people that work in hotels, resturants, supermarkets, bars, cleaning, auto repairs, contruction etc are the said expatriates. How many bvi islanders going to clean houses? How many bvi ilanders going to work in bars? How many bvi islanders going to work in stores etc? Yes we may own these business but the reality when hiring we look for the same expatriates do get the job done.
These very same newsonline websites how many locals they have working with them.
We need to stop this foolish mentality we cannot survive on her own without these people. If these people decided to go back to their country we bvislanders businesses will sink becuase half us aint doing these jobs that are below us and the houses that are for rent the landlords will have a difficult time paying their morgage.
We need to stop it trust me there will come a time when these same people will go back to their country. How will we survive.
But then it is the mentality of some of these politicians and supportes when you say we going to take our country back, I am indigenous, we need our own this is implying to the people we dont need people to run this country who are not full tortolian
Now that people who are belongers that has rights for here they went and check the voters list and civil registry to see how many can vote. Now all if a sudden they want to give citizenship to skilled persons within a 10 year period, they want to gie them the world, they love them . Stop the sh....t. if these said party leaders had such live why did they question the legality of the staus of Myron running. The truth his they do not want him to run becuase his parents not from here he is jot indigenous enough. He is not a full breed.
The other day I heard a man say that people voting for myron have to be island people or they have parwnts aint from here. It is talking season now so they now love island people we fully well know that VIP do not like island people they only using them now for votes.
Why Andrew made it an issue for him running
By throwing around your pride in being born here you look a like a fool that inherited something valuable and expects the world to respect them for it. It doesn't work like that.
I agree it's wrong to talk down BVIslanders and a certain amount of patriotism keeps things cohesive, but elevating the importance of where you are born over who you actually are and how you live your life is topsy turvy.
As for generalising about foreigners talking down BVIslanders? No. Some do. Some don't. All should be allowed to if their eyes show them idiotic behaviour. Or should they not form opinions about what they see in the country they live in?
And claiming BVIslanders respect other countries when they are there is just ... meaningless nonsense based on nothing at all except some words you put together in a sentence. Some do, some don't - what the ??? are you talking about?
Anyway, I'm a born here BVIslander and proud, but not so proud it made me stupid.
