ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Three time Olympian Tahesia G. Harrigan-Scott springs into action tonight, August 12, 2016 in the 100m Heats at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The preliminary round for the 100m actually starts at 10:55 A.M. today, however, Harrigan-Scott has run above 11.67 in qualifying and instead will go directly into the Heats which start at 9:40 P.M.

The [British] Virgin Islands’ 2008 World Indoor 60m bronze medallis and 2006 and 2010 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games 100m champion, Harrigan-Scott, told Virgin Islands News Online she is feeling very confident and relaxed for her competition in the 100m tonight.

“I've already put in all the hard work, so now all I have to do is stick with my race strategy and execute the way my coach has instructed me to.”

The territory’s most successful sprinter added that her goal in the first round is to “stay aggressive and execute. Once I do that, I know my time would reflect what I am capable of running.”

Third time’s a charm!

Harrigan-Scott has represented the Virgin Islands at the Olympic Games in Beijing and London and is now in her third Olympics, which in itself is a historic achievement for the territory.

She has always found great pride and joy in representing the VI, however, to be in Rio at her third Olympic Games is particularly special for Harrigan-Scott.

“I am always excited to represent the BVI. It is even more exciting this time because it’s my third appearance. In my mind, the third time is a charm, so I expect great results and to make my country proud.”

Harrigan-Scott, who is joined by Ashley N. Kelly as the two track athletes from the VI to have qualified for the Rio Olympics, further expressed gratitude for the many persons who have supported her in her Olympic endeavours.

“I would also like to thank God for this opportunity to compete at the Rio Olympics and for guiding and walking with me on this journey. Thanks to my family and friends for their undying support and motivating words or encouragement. And the BVI Olympic Committee for all they have done to ensure I received all the necessary treatment and competitions to prepare for the Games.”

Meanwhile, Kelly competes on Monday August 15, 2016.

Swimmer Elinah Phillip takes to the pool in the first round of the Women's 50m Freestyle at 12:02 P.M. today. She will start in Lane 8 of Heat 6.
