Move your derelict vehicle within 10 days or else- Gov't
The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, in a notice on Monday, October 12, 2026, noted that more than a dozen derelict and abandoned vehicles were identified in Johnson Ghut, raising environmental and public health concerns.
The 10 days are being given to owners of these abandoned and derelict vehicles as a courtesy, the Ministry added.
Crown Lands Management Act provides enforcement measures
The notice reminded the public that the Crown Lands Management Act, 2024, provides for enforcement measures, including administrative penalties for non-compliance with applicable legal requirements.
Vehicle owners are being encouraged to take advantage of the courtesy period to remove their property and avoid potential enforcement action.
The Ministry also reminded the public that Crown land and other public areas are not authorised sites for the storage or disposal of derelict vehicles, vehicle parts, household waste or other debris.
The removal of these vehicles, therefore, is intended to reduce potential environmental hazards, discourage pest activity and restore the affected area.
Public cooperation necessary- PS Berkeley
“The ministry is also calling on members of the public to play an active role in protecting the environment by reporting abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping and other activities that may negatively impact their communities,” Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Dr Ronald F. Smith-Berkeley said.
He called on persons to speak up and say something if they see something.
“Public cooperation is essential to identifying problem areas and maintaining clean, safe and healthy communities throughout the Territory.”
People who may have information regarding abandoned vehicles or who wish to report similar environmental or public health concerns are urged to contact the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change at (284) 468-2147 or via email at menrcc@gov.vg.

To be honest to the current VIP government cabinet they inherited this problem, but hadn't done nearly enough to remedy it negative effects.
All of these direlect vehecles are healthy hazard, mosqitoes breathers, dingy fever inhancers, and eyes soars, so to speak. The present government cabinet is now responsible to lead in receding this problem. I hope that for the reminders of this term much will be done to help reduce direlect vehicles negative impact.
