Well, I see one helmet on the ground. In Greenland, there are young children on 4-wheel scooters and 2-wheel scooters. Their parents can't even make them go to school. So tell me, where do you think they will end up? With the drug cartel and dead at an early age! The parents know who I'm talking about.

Someone has to tell these scooter riders that the middle of the road is not “their lane”

strupz is correct. Vehicle drivers, as well as scooter drivers, are speeding at unbelievable speeds around this island. I witnessed an accident almost happen because a speeding tailgater didn't allow the front vehicle to make a stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian crossing. These people are racing past me at too much speed, because I will not follow the leader and speed.

I'm not surprised. I'm shocked it didnt had more accidents, cause everybody was driving like a bunch of skunts lastnight. On a serious note I wonder if it's that same dude who was overtaking vehicles while descending Bellevue hi with a woman on the back holding on for dare life?

Driving in Tortola is like driving in an insane asylum, honestly it’s absolutely absurd. Everyone of these scooter drivers is a massive dander to the public with a few exceptions. There needs to be a referendum in government to vote to ban these scooters. Can you imagine driving to town and not having nutcases on scooters harassing other vehicles, it would fantastic. Right now the number of accidents is getting out of control. It’s an embarrassment and detrimental to the island.

True, people may have been seriously hurt, and they MAY have not been irresponsible drivers, or responsible for the accident. However, it the fact remains that many of the scooters drivers drive recklessly, and self servingly, driving down the middle of the road, at speed, without regard to driving rules or traffic laws, just so they can get where they’re going. They are a Public Health Hazard.

I really don't think there is any need to ban scooters. Just enforce the laws and when they are caught give them a mandatory class on safe riding. Show them some real graphic videos of people in serious scooter accidents. Doesn't have to be local. We need to shock these young people.

That video of those young men was pretty graphic. Over the years I've seen many videos of accidents. I don't know what else it will take to convince them to ride better. People are reckless with their lives, especially the young people
I've seen literal babies on these things with adult helmets on their head, not even strapped on (as if that'd do anything anyway.) Regardless, the taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for their insistent ignorance. A ban is seeming like the a reasonable option more and more every time it happens. That or NHI should just stop paying for motorcycle accidents if the scooter rider is at fault or wasn't wearing a helmet. (And charge the driver for manslaughter/reckless endangerment if anyone gets hurt because of his actions.) Or charge scooter riders more in NHI or have the rider/guardian sign a bond to repay the government. Either ways, it's costing the people of the BVI too much money and we all feel it. The run around you get from NHI when you have to see a specialist for an illness that isn't even your fault. All the money is going to them so no one else can get. This needs to stop.

These clown is who draining the NHI system and probably never contribute a dime, but the hospital has no choice but to care for them.

I'd love to know how many citations are given out by the police every year or calendar quarter for scooters that are unregistered or otherwise driven illegally. The only answer is hefty fines, loss of licence (if the operator has one) AND confiscation of the scooter, whether it's operated by the ower or not. If you confiscate the scooter, the owner (whether its operator or not) will really feel that kind of punishment, and that will eliminate a serious public safety threat.

Auction them off to an adult and use that money for more traffic enforcement; everybody wins except for the knuckleheads....
