ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Traffic in the vicinity of Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) was a nightmare on the first day of school this morning, September 11, 2023, as traffic was re-routed by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) without the public being notified.

This has forced the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports to demand of the RVIPF that the Ministry as well as the public is adequately notified whenever there are adjustments to traffic in the vicinity of schools.

The RVIPF headed by Commissioner Mark Collins has since apologised for this blunder.

‘No public advisory was issued’ by RVIPF

The Ministry in a statement today, September 11, 2023, said it became aware of an adjustment to traffic in the vicinity of the Elmore Stoutt High School that adversely impacted motorists.

In recognising that Ministry officials were unaware, and no public advisory was issued, the Ministry immediately contacted the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) to ascertain why the traffic adjustments were made.

It said the RVIPF has since notified the Ministry that this matter has been addressed.

The Ministry said it has requested that before any future adjustment is made to traffic in the vicinity of schools, both the Ministry and the public should be given adequate notification.

This way, all stakeholders can properly prepare as they traverse the area. The Ministry apologises for any inconvenience caused this morning.

RVIPF apologises

Meanwhile, the RVIPF has also issued a public apology.

The RVIPF apologizes for the traffic delays experienced this morning, September 11, 2023, due to the temporary traffic rerouting for the school year's resumption.

We understand the inconvenience and the need for further assessments to bring about a much smoother flow of traffic, where the public will be informed prior to any proposed traffic implementation. We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and feedback. Your safety remains our top priority,” the RVIPF stated.

Simple radio announcement and a fbook note early in the morning prevent all these problems.. Then again what was the official change date and time..?

Can always tell that you’ll meet a police officer somewhere up the road when traffic is held up.

      They only make traffic worse.

This is something that has been going on for years. Any and everyone would just divert traffic or place barriers on the roadway for various reasons without seeking permission from the relevant authority. Hope this could curb this vexing issue

The traffic was wall-to-wall from the top of Joe's Hill Road and moving at snail-paced. I turned my car around and drive to Great Mountain to access Road Town. What a blunder!

How in the World could the Police just jump up and do as they like with the Traffic. Mr Commissioner you cant just do as you feel without considering there are other Departments that MUST be notified on such accurences. The General Public has to be advice on these changes.
I personally think that at times you are deliberate with your actions as if your ulterior motive is to show us you are the Boss which you are NOT..
When you get away with this, that, and the other with any repurcussion , it will automatically become the NORM as far as you are concerned.
And by the way it is showing ABSOLUTELY no kind of RESPECT,to the people of this Territory.
It has become very essential that we begin to check How you are now doing things in the BVI. as well as the things you are willing to put us through.(That's my Honest Opinion., who feel hurt,......so be it.

Who made that foolish decision? This clearly shows that the head of the traffic department is brainless. Mediocrity is at its pick now. We can't expect better.

When we leave water front heading East making a right turn at western union up to first bank, village cay around Noel Loyd Park, or Banco That will ease the bottle neck at the round about and put a little ease on the traffic.. Rather than if you leaving west to go by first bank or republic bank, or Village cay you have to go all the way up to the round about..

How did Mr. Mark Collins become the problem? The wise members you voted back in to run these beautiful Virgin Islands , made some fantastic decisions including changing traffic directions. Now they want to look into making part of Main Street a two way. Y'all give them folks an award please******applause****

island because of road traffic. There are webcams at several beaches so maybe road webcams are next. Of course all this traffic congestion would cease if all the office workers and school children worked or learned remotely at home!

Why do we complain, this is who you put in power then we turn around and do it again. You get what you ask for. Our only goal is independence or the white man
