More work to be done on RT Market Square

The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting tenders for procurement and installation of awning shutters at the Market Square.
According to a press release from Government Information Services on August 2, 2023, the scope of work comprises providing all plant, labour, equipment and materials, and performing all operations in connection with the procurement of Miami Dade County approved, equivalent or similar impact metal shutters for 16 kiosks. Contractor is also to ensure that installation does not impact operations of vendors at the respective kiosks.
Requirements
Procurement Coordinator, Mrs Ishma Rhymer said tenderers are required to provide a list of similar projects completed within the last five (5) years, and a detailed work programme and Method Statement showing the order in which the various sections of works are to be executed and the rate of progress.
Mrs Rhymer added that amongst other things, tenderers must also have a valid Trade Licence for the specific type of work detailed in the tender document, and Certificates of Good Standing in respect of the Social Security and taxes, including Payroll and Income Tax, from VI Social Security Board, National Health Insurance and Inland Revenue Department.

The remodelled Road Town Market Square, a project of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government, opened for business on February 13, 2023, just over two years after ground was broken.
At the time of the opening, the Government of the Virgin Islands had expended a total of $1.3M on the newly constructed market and, Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) had said by the time all works are completed, it would be in the region of $1.7M.
