‘More local entries' for Easter Festival events- Hon. Vincent O. Wheatley
In an interview with Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), Hon. Wheatley shared that he began his Easter weekend on Friday, April 3, 2026, with a sunrise church service on the beach at St. Thomas Bay. He then attended the North Sound Methodist Church and the Anglican service, which commemorated the last three hours of Christ's earthly life.
He noted that all services were well attended and beautifully presented.
Most activities were well supported
Wheatley also participated in the annual Good Friday Concert, which he described as well-supported and well-executed. Although most of the activities he said were well attended, he stated that he would like to see more local entries in the various activities.
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, several events were held, including the WahooMania Fishing Tournament, the Seriene Maduro Food Fair, a car show, and the opening of the Avanell 'Clarkie' Morton Village. The minister stated that he took part in the fishing tournament, where a prize pot of $7,000 was at stake.
He added, “The village on Saturday was off to a slow start, but as the night progressed, the crowds grew. Adam O. put on an excellent show.”
More local entries
As for the Wet Fest and the R. T. O’Neal Hat Parade, which took place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Honourable Wheatley noted that both events had strong support, which pleased him while on Monday April 6, 2026, the parade featured 15 or more entries from diverse groups, including the Filipino community, Moko Jumbies, local businesses, and even political representatives, including himself.
Hon. Wheatley concluded by stating, “I would like to see, moving forward, more local entries from Virgin Gorda and the Virgin Islands as a whole.”
The 2026 Virgin Gorda Easter Festival took place from Saturday, April 4, to Monday, April 6, 2026.
