ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Baker & Partners law firm, in collaboration with International Motors and Riteway, will launch a monthly blood donation programme on Friday, May 29, 2026.

In an interview with Virgin Islands News Online, Kymianne A. Frett from Baker & Partners stated that this initiative aims to provide a consistent monthly supply of blood to the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital's blood bank on the last Friday of each month.

Programme to support hospital

The hospital heavily relies on imported blood supplies, so this initiative will enhance local blood availability.

The Baker & Partners Team stated, “We hope that this blood donation programme, which will be launched on a pilot basis for six months, can be expanded into a long-term, self-sustaining community initiative.”

The blood donation programme will be run independently by Baker & Partners, International Motors, and Riteway, with the aim of supporting the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital blood bank through community efforts.

Community support

Ms Frett expressed to our news centre, “Our community is well placed to assist our local hospital with its ongoing emergency blood supply needs; however, to ensure that the blood donation programme is consistent going forward, we need that message to reach the broadest possible audience. We are very hopeful that the BVI community will respond to this initiative in a positive way.”

Health Minister Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) will attend the launch of the programme.

That's not how blood donation works ma'am. Person have to be first screened and of the right age, weight, etc. It way more compliacted and needs specialized persons to conduct blood drive.

Do you read? It clearly states it’s going to be conducted at the hospital.

I think if the Minister of Health, the hospital, and the sponsors are involved, they’re obviously doing what they have to do the correct way. Maybe instead of commenting negatively, you should offer suggestions that make sense.

    Great initiative, Baker and Partners.

I used to donate blood regularly, once I reached 65 years they would no longer accept blood from me. The UK and USA accept blood from seniors who are in good health . What is the problem in our country?
