ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Money Matter VI (MMBVI), the financial literacy function at the BVI Financial Services Commission, has announced the launch of its fourth annual Piggy Bank Pageant (PBP) in the Virgin Islands.

The initiative in the release is inviting students from across the VI in kindergarten to grade 6 to participate in this year’s competition which will run under the theme - Characters and Heroes.

“The competition, which is supported by five local retail banks, encourages young minds to learn about saving and money management through creative craftsmanship. The MMBVI team has already visited with over 1,000 students at their schools to encourage participation in the PBP.”

Based on student feedback, interest is at the usual high, with students identifying Marvel characters, sports figures, and local heroes as intended muses for their bank projects.

Managing Director and CEO Mr. Kenneth B. Baker, in expressing support for the continuing initiative, stated: “While this may seem like all fun and games, financial literacy activities like the Piggy Bank Pageant play a critical role in introducing young people to saving, to how money works, as well as to the value of the banking system”.

All entered piggy banks will be put on display during the MMBVI Piggy Bank Exhibition, which is also scheduled for March 2024.

The deadline for submissions is 4:00 p.m, Friday, March 15, 2024.
