Monel Nickie appointed Acting Sister Islands Coordinator

VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Mrs Monel Nickie has been appointed Acting Sister Islands Coordinator.

Mrs Nickie takes up this position having served as Virgin Gorda’s District Officer where she gained valuable knowledge and experience in the administration of the Sister Islands, according to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) today, August 30, 2023.

As Sister Islands Coordinator, she will lead the Sister Islands Programme Unit, including District Officers and all other staff, and will be responsible for facilitating and monitoring projects to improve the quality of Government services across the Sister Islands.

Mrs Nickie will be responsible for the oversight of the Sister Islands Programme Unit’s daily deliverables including providing expert advice on programmes and projects, supervising District Officers and general oversight of Government services on the Sister Islands to ensure all departmental objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner.

'Focused & results driven'

Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer Jr said Mrs Nickie represents the very best of Public Service Excellence.

“She is thorough, focused and results driven, which are key qualities that I am confident will aid her in tackling this new challenge,” Mr Archer Jr said. He added, “I have total confidence that she will deliver great results for the residents of the Sister Islands, and by extension, the Government of the Virgin Islands.”

Mrs Nickie expressed that she is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Sister Islands in this role.

“I am blessed to be able to serve in this capacity. My love for our Territory propels me to make meaningful contributions that both present and future generations would benefit from. It is an honour to work with a team that is dedicated to fulfilling its objectives and I look forward to the continued advancement of these Virgin Islands."

Mrs Nickie has an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of the Virgin Islands. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands.

The Sister Islands Programme Unit was established to be the Government’s service delivery hub across all islands except Tortola. 

The previous Sister Islands Coordinator was Ms Sasha D.A. Flax, who was appointed in 2019.
