ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The three contestants for the upcoming Miss Diva 2012 Pageant have been busying themselves with community work as the Miss Teen Diva Pageant Committee continues to encourage the contestants to be positive role models and future leaders.

The latest work worthy of commendation was assisting members of the Road Town Methodist Church prep for the cooking of meals on Friday November 9, 2012 and the actual cooking and distribution the following day to the elderly, sick and shut-ins of the community.

The contestants, along with pageant committee member Lavanta Thompson, actively and cheerfully participated in the delivery exercise where they were able to interact with some of the persons visited. The President of the pageant committee, Camille Merry, was also with the contestants during the prepping on Friday.

Meanwhile, the ladies of the Road Town Methodist have been performing the community service for several years now with the prepping being done on Friday afternoons and the cooking and delivery on Saturday mornings.

Also, On October 19, 2012, the Miss Teen Diva Pageant contestants visited the Wendell Potter Learning Centre to read to the pre-school aged children.

The three contestants, 12-year-old Shaemore Smith, 17-year-old Deidre Samuel and 17-year-old Chelsea Hodge, read short but engaging stories including “Learning Love”, “I Tell the Truth” and “I Care for Others” to the youngsters. The children were very receptive of the contestants’ visit and gave positive feedback to the stories.

The 2012 Miss Teen Diva Pageant is slated for November 24, 2012 at the East End/Long Look Community Centre.

On August 25, 2007 the first annual Miss Teen D.I.V.A. Pageant was successfully launched and has since crowned four Miss Teen Divas, including the 2011 winner, Miss Sherise Stapleton.

According to the Miss Teen Diva Pageant Committee, the main purpose of the pageant is to help build the self-confidence of young girls by assuring them that they can achieve any goal once they set their minds to it. Also, by teaching them how to carry themselves in a positive manner, they can be outstanding role models for other young people.

The Contestants this year will compete in seven unique rounds of competition; Introduction, Diva Party Wear, Creative School Wear, African Diva Wear, Creative Wear, Formal Wear, and Question and Answer.
