Miss BVI 2025 to be crowned @ Festival Opening Ceremony- Hon Hodge-Smith

Back in June 2025, Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4) said the cancellation of the pageant for the 71st Emancipation Festival was “way, way, way beyond” their control.
She explained then that, “It was simply impossible to have a pageant with two contestants. I must say the committee made special efforts to encourage other contestants to stay on board…and to even to solicit for other young ladies to come out and vie for the title, but unfortunately, time was of the essence.”
Unconventional coronation @ Festival opening ceremony
Speaking on The Virgin Islands Voice last night, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Junior Minister once again apologised to the public, especially those who look forward to the annual queen show for its cancellation.
While a coronation experience where patrons of the show would have had the opportunity to attend dressed elegantly, Hon Hodge-Smith said, “that too is not to be in the way that we initially planned”.
Instead, the Junior Minister said Miss Hodge will be crowned in an “unconventional manner, yet in a way that demonstrates the respect and honour due to her”
The coronation will be done at the festival's opening ceremony at Charlie Neil Frett Festiville this Friday, July 25, 2025.
"It's not the usual way in which you would do that, but beyond our control, things didn't work out the way it should have been, so we [had to] find a different way to get it done."
Miss Hodge will be crowned Miss BVI 2025, and Hon Hodge-Smith added it will be done with "a twist" as they try to make it as "pleasant and honourable to her as Miss BVI 2025".

Bunch of wash out artist foreal. I will stay home in my bed or go VG to eat and dine.
Make the best use of your time.
I remember when even the current junior minister was a contestant who won. Miss Parsons made a few gowns for contestants as well back in the day.
The parade always had a not ontime curse on it that somehow can't get fix, but we accustom now. Remember Mr Elihu Rymer on his bike through the parade and Chairman, Erasmus Williams and Mr Merit Herbert of ZBVI covering. The WSTA people from St Thomas I believe use to come to do live coverage. The days when who is who had a camcorder and the up and coming cell phones didn't have cameras. Now today everybody could record.
Use to look forward also to seeing Mrs. Margaret Borde coming up in the parade with her costume. Mrs Corine Brewley and Mrs Jasmine Brewley use to have awesome troupes with people dressed properly. The majorettes were also a highlight.
I can't remember everything but some of you can add what you can remember.
The good ole days
No Queen Show
No pre-Festival warm up
No horse race
Road Town dead
I can't imagine what the parade is going to look like
Please if the community has lost the fire and needed effort to invest in puttimg on an a Festival Extravaganza to bring people to our shores as well as entertain residents, then let us stop embarassimg ourselves.
