Methodists win “Volleyball Battle” of the Churches 2012!

The Methodist Church was crowned Champions on Sunday at the 2012 Battle of the Churches, organised by the BVIAVA.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Methodist Church is the 2012 volleyball church champions after a thrilling three (3) sets victory over the Church of God of Prophecy on Sunday March 25, 2012.

After losing the first set 25-8, the Church of God used all their powers to win the second 17-19, but then went down 15-10 in the deciding set. For the Methodists’ Damien Creque recorded 9 kills, 1 block, 2 digs and Andre Brathwaite had 7 kills, 4 digs. For the Church of God Neville Brathwaite had 1 kill, 7 blocks, 9 digs, 1 ace, whilst Travis Jack had 3 kills, 4 blocks, 13 digs.

The Methodist marched to the final which started on Saturday with a hard fought 2 sets to one victory over the same opponents with a score line of 17-15, 14-16, 15-10. For the Prophecy Clyde Potter Sr. had 1 kill, 1 block, 10 digs, Clyde Potter Jr. 2 kills, 1 block, 7 digs, 1 ace and Javlyn Frett 1 kill, 8 digs.

For the Methodists’, Damien Creque: 3 kills, 1 block, 1 dig, Pastor Mourose: 5 digs and Vina Brathwaite: 1 kill, 4 digs, 2 aces.

In game 2, the New Life Baptish Church defeated Rotaract in 3 sets, 10-15, 15-8, and 15-6. For New Life, Tyalia Nibbs: 4 kills, 5 digs, 1 ace, Chadni Wattley: 3 kills, 1 dig and Gregory Nelson 1 kill, 6 digs, 1 ace.

For Rotaract Erica Wade: 2 kills, 5 digs and Jamacye Mason: 1 kill, 4 digs.

Game 3 went the way of the Church of God of Prophecy who defeated Rotaract in straight sets, 15-11, 15-7. Sharlene Frett had 1 kill, 9 aces and Neville Brathwaite: 2 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig.

For Rotaract Jamacye Mason 1 kill, 2 digs, 2 Aces.

On Sunday, the Methodist Church defeated New Life Baptist Church in three (3) sets and the Church of God of Prophecy defeated Rotaract in straight sets 15-10, 15-7.

In the BVIAVA Power League Phoenix Red defeated Raw Power in straight sets 25-14, 25-14, 25-21 led by Symone Penn’s 5 kills and 1 ace. Amadona Creese added 4 kills, 7 digs and 9 aces. Tamesha Nibbs finished with 3 kills, 4 digs and 1 ace.

Valissia Brathwaite top scored for Raw Power with 5 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces, whilst Ethlyn Lawrence added 1 kill, 1 block and 4 digs. Henrietta Telemaque finished with 2 kills and 2 digs.

Just Dream then defeated Future in straight sets 25-18, 25-18, 25-27 with Canice Marquis recording 9 kills, 1 block, 1 dig, 2 aces. Rhennie Phipps added 8 kills, 1 block, 1 dig and 2 aces. 3 Drexel Glasgow had 6 kills and 3 blocks.

For The Future, Clyde Potter Jr. recorded 10 kills, 1 block, 2 digs and Andre Brathwaite had 4 kills, 4 digs and 1 ace. Cedric Thomas Jr. contributed 4 kills, 1 block, 2 digs and an ace.
