ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Last evening December 8, 2011, it was a nail-biting experience for all those who were supporting Melanie Amaro as she was among the last three contenders from which the final safe contestant in X Factor would have been chosen – in the end it was Melanie who made it safely into the top four but it made way later for an emotional exit of a favourite, young Rachel Crow.

During the backstage wait, after Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik were safely selected as part of the Top 4, Melanie said she was really scared but yet confident in her fans.

The 19-year-old Virgin Islander said she also felt fortunate to have even gotten so far in the show.

Returning from a break and a Mary J Blige performance, it was then time for a crucial announcement as Melanie, Rachel Crow and Marcus Canty all seemed very nervous.

It was Melanie who made it through as she breathed a sigh of relief. She will now take part in the December 14 show where she along with the other three contestants will sing the Pepsi Challenge song, which is a song selected by the public and with the hope of winning the $5 million contract.

Last week, Virgin Islands News Online had an exclusive interview with Melanie’s mom Deborah Sylvester-Amaro who said if her daughter wins or even gets close, it was the will of God.

The mother also revealed details of Melanie’s early singing ability which came from six months old and her affiliation to the Virgin Islands. Even though Melanie was not born in the VI, she spent her early school years and attended school and for her, Tortola, is her only home.

“I feel like I am dreaming all now, I don’t feel like it’s real, like everything is just happening so fast I am very proud of her and excited for what she is doing,” the elated mother had told this news agency. “I believe what God has for her is for her, and whether she wins or comes close I think is all the will of God. And we truly appreciate that.” Sad exit of Rachel Crow

Following Melanie’s selection into the Top 4, it was the beginning of what has been dubbed, “the most gut-wrenching, excruciatingly painful and surprising elimination of the season” as Rachel and Marcus battled for survival.

Marcus Canty stepped up first for the song for survival round, his third there in as many weeks, with "I'm Going Down" by Mary J. Blige while Rachel sang for survival for the first time with Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind".

While both sang their hearts out, it was the judges’ decision as to who stays in the competition.

It was two for Rachel and one for Marcus and came down to judge Nicole Scherzinger who said she could not have made the decision and will go into deadlock. Therefore the decision was left with the contestant who got the lowest votes which was Crow.

The 13-year-old broke down in tears and loud wailing along with many in the audience, Judge Nicole and maybe many who were also viewing on television.

In parting last night, Rachel said, "I just I love you so much everybody for voting for me and thank you for giving me this because without you I am nothing. I hope this is not my ending. I know it's not."

The next X Factor show will be aired again on Wednesday, Decembers 14 at 8/7C or 9 p.m. local time on FOX to vote through the three you want to see in the finale and find out which lucky finalists make it through to the finale on Thursday, December 15.

It's really amazing to see the virgin islands have recognized and found so many useful talents over years, instead of giving them a chance and motivating them, they are ignored or discouraged when in hunt for an opportunity, leaving it up to the individual to find away or someone abroad to discover their talents. However, when that someone makes it, or may even be recorgnize for a few moments of fame, they are very quick to acknowledge and seek appraisals as if they were there from inception and also so suddenly supportive. So disgust of the way our country handles things. I wish this young lady all the best and hopes that she makes it to the very end through god's grace.

You're so right about this...I agree 100%. I bet if she was in the news for doing something illegal they would of never wanted to claim that she is from the VI, I could hear it now "She wasn't born here, therefore she has nothing to do with the VI" smdh

I also believe that, they would have never claimed her if she was trying her best here in the bvi to make it as a singer, but now that someone else has discovered what we have ignored, all of a sudden we want to claim her. Melanie born Florida, went school here, graduate and sang at the service and they just bypassed her song (contribution as just another local singer-wanna-be) didn't give here a second glance or thought, now we want her to give props to the bvi. Couldn't say it any better.
