Masturbation is sinful but an accepted norm in VI society – Elton Callwoood
The issue of masturbation and whether it is sinful, quite possibly a debate that has echoed throughout the centuries, was given a thorough working over last evening March 25, 2013 on the Relationship Rescue TV programme aired on CBN Channel 51.
Callwood was of the view that the practice had become an accepted norm throughout the years and as a result, lines had become blurred on whether the practice was sinful. He was confident that the bible was clear on masturbation being sexual immorality and a result of lustful desires.
Host of the programme, Pastor Claude Skelton-Cline felt that Callwood was confusing masturbation and lust and said, “You’re drawing a theological reference, and I think it’s ok to draw a reference because the bible gives room for that, but I want you to understand that that’s all it is, it’s a reference.”
He felt that persons should have conversation and come to certain conclusions when the bible did not speak particularly to a subject. He further stated that different things inform this conclusion such as the context in which we grow up, the context of the story being told, the content (words being used within the story), cultural mores, etc.
Often resorting to a shouting match, the two engaged each other vigorously on definitions related to the concept of masturbation and how it related to married and single persons.
“Because we have grown up in a small Territory, in a religious community [that is] predominantly Christian,” Skelton-Cline continued, “there are some things that we have come to believe, that we have [held] to be true, that may not be true.”
Callwood also felt that masturbation in some instances could lead to rape and urged that self control be employed to resist masturbation. He was challenged by the host on whether he had become a rapist after practising masturbation over the years and replied that he had not.
Skelton-Cline felt that masturbation was not wrong “in its proper context” and said there were some things in the bible that speak to and support slavery; other things speak to and look like they do not support slavery; things that use women and speak about women in derogatory terms as though they were part of the property and [belonged to] a chauvinistic male society.
He said it’s in the bible, “where God uses the Hebrew people and they give God credit for killing women, children, boy, girl, sheep and then you come to the New Testament, you see Jesus and he looks nothing like the God in the Old Testament.”
Skelton-Cline contended that you cannot just take the bible and listen to what it says verbatim and infer that this is exactly what it means. “It calls for proper interpretation, and there are tools for interpretation and if you don’t’ have the tools to properly interpret scripture, then you will misinterpret it,” he added.
When asked how a young unmarried Christian should deal with the issue of masturbation, Callwood said the common denominator should be God, “once you have a relationship with God for that child, and you train them in the way that they should go, they will not break off from it, you’ve got to teach them in the foundation of God…” he said.
He suggested that young people make use of the many outlets such as youth groups in church to keep their minds focused and maintain self-control, “every time that you get to that point (of getting into a lustful sexual being), move away from the thought into something that uplifts God.”
Skelton-Cline was not satisfied with this response and suggested that Callwood was skirting the issue and simplifying it to a great extent. “It’s the simplicity of it as to why people are so dysfunctional, because you simply sit here and you tell them the common denominator is God…”
“What in the devil does that mean? What does that mean to the man out there who is struggling, the girl who is struggling with her sexuality, her physiological make up? What does that mean?” Skelton-Cline asked.
“You cannot simply tell them it is God, that doesn’t work…” he added. The debate raged on and the shouting continued.

Eltie, when you are having sexual relations with your w.f..e do you think of Jesus?
Shame on those of you who subscribe to this type of foolishness!
THEY SAY PUMPING MAKE U BLIND BUT I STILL CAN SEE THE $H1T LT TALKING LOL. IM A PUMPA
WHAT IS NEXT? LOL
You have to imagine someone and having sex with yourself. They are alot of men addicted to masturbation and starts to loose interest in women and also their muscles in the private area weakens due to masturbation.
I thought that by exercising a muscle, it grows STRONGER!
Masturbation
Pornography
The addiction to pornograph is a serious issue yes, but it is not because of Masturbation why its an issue. Its because of the focus on pornograpy to the exclusion of all else, as you said, the person lost of interest in developing healthy relationhips outside of that pornograph and the idea that how porn stars behave is the way all women should behave when having sex. That last is often a disappointment to men because they dont understanding the porn star is doing a job and that is the way she has to behave, most women do not scream and carry on like banshees when having sex, this does not mean that they are not enjoying it.
Masturbation is a healthy way to learn about yourself in terms of your sexual likes and dislikes.
and pornography has its place in terms of its ablility to provide help during sexual therapy etc.
However, like everything on earth , it all has the ability to be preverted.
We have so demonised, masturbation, in this society that women AND men do know much about what it takes to please them sexually and so have a perverted idea of what sex is, what they should accept and expect from their partners and so end up thinking that they way they are doing it is ok, even and especially when they are not being satisfied sexually
If they lose interest in women then they won't rape them. So either you or Elton is talking crap, or both of you. Masturbation or Fornication. Pick your choice. I have never read anything in the bible about Masturbation yet.
Was I the only one who noticed that whomever is a guest on Claude (The VI Pope) show becomes a headline and a magnet for contreversy? Claude start saving souls and stop looking to sensationalize smokescreen issues. Please read your Bible Claude and PRAY!
B. Is it suitable talk for a TV show?
C. Mr Cline should get on with sorting out the Ports Authority and the terrible state of the ferries. 20 tourists could not get on the ferry at West End yesterday "because it was full" and missed their afternoon flights.
Listen, stop with the bs. Claude isn't to be blamed for the Ferry situation. It's we the people. Tourists are not the only ones stranded, we feel it to and it costs us a lot at times. WE sit back and say nothing why? Because the ferries are locally owned. The right thing for Government to do is put out a tender for TWO RELIABLE Ferry services regardless of nationality and let the market determine who does business and who goes out of business. The day Claude and NDP does that all heads will explode talking a set of s#!t, nevermind it will solve the problem once and for all. That's why. Now go read a damn book.
I think you are a bit confused. NOT MASTURBATING COULD LEAD TO RAPE...LOL. For once I agree with Claude.
Claude, your behaviour is disgusting. Your focus as a man of God or so u say is suppose to be winning souls for Christ. But look what u in the media talking about. Woe beyond to you. The bible really talk about evil in the last days. Matt 7:15 "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves". 2 Tim 3:5 also states that "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof". I could go in and on. You all need to "refuse profane and old fables and exercise yourselves rather to Godliness." God is watching us mind. You all have this thing like a joke. But when u see he start pouring his wrath, u all going to say Lord why. 1 Corin 9:27 says but I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself be a castaway." Be careful.
So, yeah. Pumping ain't leadin' to rape, actually quite the opposite. Plus the bible ayo quoting from been written, re-written, EDITED and had important parts of it omitted to fit the ideology of certain people who want to keep y'all (By Y'all I mean those who don't THINK and accept everything put forward to them as Truth and Law) nice, fat and complacent. So you can't readily draw reference off of that without either misinterpreting it to fit what YOU want to say against Masturbation, or you just want to take it out of context to make it look like a sin when it really ain't.
And for any of y'all who get mad at what I had to say about the bible, do me a BIG favor. Look up these TWO Chapters.
GENESIS 32:30 REad it.
Then read
EXODUS 33:20. Trust in the God you believe in and then ask HIM for the bible he meant us to have when you reach heaven. He copy ain't go no flagrant errors like them two that in yours and mine.
The Bible itself explains every apparent contradiction. You need to expand your search and open your mind to get the full context. In this case, read John 1:18. It speaks of the Father and of the Son and it speaks of both being God.
Moses did not see the Father (Exodus 33:20), but Jacob saw the Son (Genesis 32:30) before his incarnation as Christ.
Bless.
