ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A male teenager was last night, December 5, 2020, the victim of a robbery in Road Town.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, the teen was robbed of a $4000.00 ‘Gucci’ gold chain, which was allegedly snatched by a masked individual.

Our newsroom was told that the youth attended the Christmas in the City Basketball Competition on Wickham’s Cay 1 and then visited a nearby business place where he caught up with other friends as well as a relative.

According to reports, while others left, the teen and his relative remained on the frontage of the business place when a masked man approached them and grabbed the victim’s gold chain and ran off.

Police are said to be investigating.

A teenager with a $4000 gold chain on makes you wonder what kind of lifestyle he is living and showing off. Robbery is not right in any case, but wearing that chain has made him a sitting duck. What extra curricular activities is he into?

I’m curious as to how a teenager could have such an expensive item. Yet parents out here crying broke when it come to educating their children and providing the basics.

Here is how. He left school at the age of 16 and immediately got a job, worked, received wages and then purchase a Gucci. It's his right how he spends his money regardless of what others think. No one tells you how to spend yours even if you think you spent it 'sensibly' so no need to be curious - MYOB in this instance.

Oh Please. Who is being envious of a $4000.00 gold chain. Ain't that serious. What is serious though is that some persons priorities are all mixed up. You walk around with $4000.00 on your neck and $40.00 in the bank. SMH

    Gucci chain is still fashion?

Looks cheap especially on adult men no matter the price.

That must be a typo $4,000 and a teen is wearing it?

Style fades; develop your mind and character.

Businesses be on the lookout for someone trying to melt it and others be on the look out for someone trying to sell it.

What is wrong with you people? Don't our parents pay down on stuff for us? I thought the issue here is robbery? What you pay for something and what it actually cost are two different things. We focus on stupidness here in the BVI. I have bought lots of expensive things as a youngster. However, I worked summers and Christmas until I can afford them. Do you know if he borrowed or was given the chain by his father? Stop the madness! A robbery took place and that should be the headline.

And here, right here lies the problem with our society. You don't see a problem with a youngster wearing a $4000.00 chain. Why not pay down on a piece of land or towards tuition or a self-development course. As a parent, I am not paying down on any $4000.00 chain for no child. That is madness. We really focus on stupidness here in the BVI! Like a $4000.00 gold chain. Utter Nonsense.

Co-sign! This is a clear indication that we live amongst envy and bad minded people.

Nature’s Little Secret is infested with jealousy. How can you all be so angry by someone lifestyle? Wow! The teenager has a chain and so WHAT?! No one knows anything about this individual but you all are quick to judge. The funny thing is if it was a Caucasian teenager it would not have been a problem. The naysayers would say the kid family is RICH. Not because you can not afford it you will speak and type rubbish. If my child is well mannered and is superb with his/her education I will give him the WORLD. Once I have he/she has. It could have been a plain white shirt for $6000.00. It’s my child! If many parents instill that great work pays off they won’t flipping steal.

No you all rather give your side man/woman that amount of money to buy boat parts, etc instead of your own flesh and blood.

You all are sickening in this territory. Thank you Heavenly Father I never judged or watch faces. When I strut the roads of Tortola I could careless what people think of me. To the younger generation do right and your hard work will pay off.

Let me get this straight: a masked man robbed a teenager and we’re concerned about the style and cost of the chain that the teenager was wearing? No one “deserves” to be robbed - whether you are a businessman wearing a suit and tie with a nice watch, whether you are a hardworking woman with a nice handbag or whether you are a teenager wearing a $4,000 gold chain. The masked man is in the wrong here; not the teenager! Some Christian society we are when we come on these news sites and imply that anyone who dares wear anything “nice” is “asking to be robbed”. What would you say to those whose homes and businesses are broken into? Are they also “asking to be robbed”? The hypocrisy of some of us in the BVI never ceases to amaze me! Let’s see how quickly you change your tone when it’s you or your family member that’s robbed by a masked assailant!

Love the comments that apparently the teen or his/her parents cannot afford a 5k chain in these times.
1 How do we not know the chain wasn't purchased years ago hence the appreciated Gold value
2 so what if the teen had a chain of value the point is the robbetrr should have never occurred.
3 Our issue is we have to much hate in this place with people feeling that those who have shouldn't no matter how hard they've worked

Yall gets Me SICKKKK OMGGG … What does the price of his possession have to warrant him getting robbed or not????? Yall wont be saying the same of a Business man making a nightly deposit of 4000 either !!! Yall must STOP it !!! Nobody possessions have the right to be stolen because of the value towards the owner! What I'm most appalled about, is the fact that this particular type of crime never used to happen, this crap reminds me of Stories I keep hearing coming from Trinidad and other various Caribbean countries, they are waayyy more brazen than BVI bandits!!! But I see that no crime if off limits for BVI bandits now!!! Sad!!!

Y'all really on here worried about the price of a chain? And how he acquired it/why he has it? as if someone wasn't robbed. Because it's expensive and he's young justifies someone taking it? They're people here who have legit money and actually purchase expensive things for their kids FYI.

You walk with a $4000 gold chain and a lot of people out of work and have been so for a lotta months.

Don't be surprised if people want what you have if it helps them put food on the table.

Not saying it's right, just saying what's going on.

are you guys kidding me? a person gets robbed and you all are questioning why a kid has a 4K necklace?
the issue here is that people are getting robbed, not how the person who was robbed got the item they were robbed for. i for one can not believe how far down this little island has slipped in the last 10 years. All these so called god fearing folks looking out for nobody but their own little group. We have serious crime here these days and all i ever hear is oh them island folks or oh, the police cant do the job!.... How about WE get involved? Report when you see something... these crooks and murderers have assistance! People know who did the crimes but don't get involved. WE are just as responsible for keeping our piece of paradise safe and WE have failed miserably!

A teenager with a $4000 gold chain! I am sure he didn"t buy it with his own money, except he inherited a substantial amount of cash. Any parent or parents who spoil children by thinking they can buy their love with expensive gifts, need their heads examine. Wonder if the rent/mortgage or bills were paid or they came up with some sick excuse for the landlord/bank
