HUNTUM’S GHUT, Tortola, VI - Word reaching our news center is that businessman Marvin E. Blyden aka ‘MB’ is to run in the Fifth Electoral District with the National Democratic Party (NDP) breakaway group Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM).

He will be coming up against the popular Virgin Islands Party (VIP) candidate Hon. Kye M. Rymer (R5) who is also the Deputy Premier and Minister for Communications and Works.

Mr. Blyden was a former Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee Chair under the controversial Culture Minister Myron V. Walwyn. It is alleged he had refused to continue as Chairman because Mr. Walwyn was trying to micromanage his duties.

This will bring to nine, the number of candidates with the PVIM, who has seemed to lose their momentum and it has been reported that they are having management issues with the 2023 campaign.

What is the strategy?

Many believe that with Mr. Blyden in the race, it could be a strategy to ensure voters in the Fifth Electoral District come out, and thus the strategy will help to garner votes for the At-Large candidates.

Mr Blyden could not be reached for comments up to publication time.

It is unclear when the campaign of Mr. Blyden; a former NDP who broke away and went with Ronnie W. Skelton’s PVIM in 2019, will be launched.

Mr. Blyden is the owner of Qwomar Trading Ltd and Pharmacy along with MB Ice. The incumbent Hon. Rymer is expected to win the D5 seat according to a majority of pollsters and political commentators.

Kye has not done anything in the district, he has to tell the people where all that money he spent according to the COI went to. There needs to be an investigation. I don't trust the VIP anymore.

I keep telling people that Kye does nothing for the district and even now as the minister for Roadworks, none of roads look different.

@ Ghut girl. Just like you and me and everyone else MB is entitled to his democratic rights which means that he can run against Kye or whoever he chooses. The BIG picture here is that his fate lies ultimately in the hands of the constituents of D5.

The chickens should not be counted before they are hatched is conventional wisdom and sage advice. The word on the street is that Hon Kye Rhymer, Deputy Premier, incumbent D-5 Rep, MCW, is a shoe-in to win the D-5 race going away and by a country mile. Furthermore, he was to make history by being unopposed. If the reporting is accurate, that may not be true. It seems as if voters in D-5 may have a choice between Hon Rymer, MB and others and nomination day is weeks away so there may be more candidates. Furthermore, voters still have to cast their votes on April 24, 2023, votes counted and results certified. Commentators, water cooler, domino table, bar stool, etc discussions, amateur pollsters, prognosticators, etc are giving Hon Rymer a high probability and high level of confidence (70%>) of winning the seat. But the votes still have to be cast and counted. Moreover, register to vote, if not too late, vote, exercising the hard earned right /entitlement—Vote. Make your voice heard not only in D-5 but also in the other 8 districts.

...spoke clearly, but it was all lies and manipulation. I give him credit for manipulating and controlling his ENTIRE cabinet and a large portion of the First district. It is a sight to behold, and the weakmindedness continues.

We should commend people for stepping forward instead of criticizing them. I can never understand this. It’s called a democracy. You don’t believe that they have anything substantial to offer, then don’t vote for them. It’s that simple. If nobody was stepping forward you all would be complaining too. People are weird messon.

MB, do not let Uncle Ronnie humbug you up. He has an unfinished agenda but you do not have an agenda. Your ship came in years ago but you refused to get on it. Now you waiting for it at the airport when it is at the dock. Do not mind Uncle Ronnie and Uncle Ishmael. Let Ishmael go in if he so thinks it is a good idea.
