Maria's by the Sea owner Maria Dawson passes

ROAD TOWN, Tortola VI – Popular hotel owner and proprietor of the 'Maria's by the Sea' establishment, Ms Maria Dawson has passed away, according to information reaching Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).

According to reports, Ms Dawson passed away sometime today, Thursday, November 17, 2022.

She will be remembered for establishing Maria’s by the Sea, which started with just 10 rooms, after which four more were added and then a further seven.

The hotel has become one of the VI's largest hotel establishments, with over 70 rooms.

The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Ms Maria Dawson.

    So sorry to hear of her passing. What a trailblazer and a wonderful woman. A trailblazer in terms of her being among the first wave of woman entrepreneurs in the BVI. She was also a trailblazer in other ways as well wearing pants and low cut hair, something unusual for women back in the day.

    I knew her from my days as a young high school student where I would go to her restaurant for lunch. Always was kind to me then and throughout. I will miss her. May she rest peacefully. Condolences to her family.

    My family and I can’t forget when we was the first to arrive there homeless they took in.
    No electricity they had a generator they told my husband come down and get dinner in a kitchen they was with 1 tiny light trying to prepare dinner for all and they also didn’t take any cash from us until the week after

    May this lady rest in eternal peace and all her kindness and generosity be multiplied in heaven.
    Lord send your comforter to the bereaved family during this disheartening time.

    Don’t like these types of news soo close to Christmas time.
