ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A man allegedly caught smoking marijuana inside a night club in 2009 by police officers will be sentenced on March 23, 2012 when he appears in the Magistrate’s Court.

Kabasha Martin, who is charged with indecent language, resisting arrest and assault on police, has pleaded guilty to the offences. On January 29, 2012, the Crown offered no evidence on the disorderly conduct charge.

According to court records, an off-duty police officer was working as a security guard at Club Diplomat Night Club on October 18, 2009 when he observed Martin allegedly smoking marijuana.

The officer then reportedly called the Road Town Police station for assistance and two officers arrived shortly after. When they approached the defendant, it is alleged that Martin verbally assaulted them, pushed one of the officers and ran off.

The officers reportedly gave chase, and were able to apprehend the father of two in the vicinity of the softball field, but he allegedly resisted arrest. However, the officers were able to subdue him.
