ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Ministry of Communications and Works announced the completion of the Manchester Road rehabilitation project ahead of its October deadline.

According to a press release issued on Friday, September 5, 2025, the road is now open for use by both motorists and pedestrians.

Rehabilitation works on this road project began after the August holidays and involved the installation of approximately 420 linear feet of concrete road pavement.

Road now protected from degradation

The completed works are now alleviating the constant view of running water on the main road while also protecting the road from degradation.

Honourable Kye Rymer (R5), the Minister for Communications and Works, expressed his gratitude to the contractor for completing the project on time and within budget.

“The ministry is cognizant of the concerns of motorists and residents that traverse the areas who were inconvenienced and, in response to this, executed much-needed rehabilitation works in the Manchester area. The ministry remains committed to delivering durable and long-term solutions throughout the Territory and will continue to modernise utilities and infrastructure.”

The road is OK. But need the black top on it. It's raggedy.

Why most government projects cannot come in on time and within or under budget. If contractors bid to complete projects for x$$ within the agreed to time, why are they not held to their contractual obligations. The exceptions should be for contract mods initiated by government or for latent defects or differing site conditions. Do contractors bid low so that they can’t get mods after award? If so this unfair to other bids which played by the rules.

The government gives the little man (those not in their circle) a set amount and they’re supposed to make do with it. Those amendments are afforded to the friends of the government, not all contractors are given more money on top of the agreed amount.
