ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) has issued a call to persons in the Territory to be cautious when spending money in this COVID-19 era.

Speaking via a social media post on Sunday, September 6, 2020, Honourable Wheatley said many who are employed are ‘lucky’.

“Manage your money very, very wisely. Make sure you save a portion and buy only what is necessary. Cut down on expenses, for example, your phone bills, water usage, electricity,” he pointed out.

Honourable Wheatley also called for persons to ‘as much as possible’ contribute to the local economy before ‘looking elsewhere.’

He continued: “For those who are not working but will receive stimulus cheques throughout the next few weeks, this also applies to you.”

Boost immune system

“Eat as healthy as possible, and get regular exercise. A healthy immune system is a powerful tool as there is not yet a vaccine for COVID-19, we are going to have to live and work with it. These three simple things will go a long way to ride out the destructive COVID-19 wave,” Honourable Wheatley remarked.

The minister said residents of his District and the rest of the Territory can expect frequent interactive sessions from him.

The topics will be based on issues affecting residents and will be posted on social media, he added.

In other words. Do you need a $350 Bop? Do you really need that PS4? You seriously thinking about buying an iPhone 11? That thing on amazon do you must buy it now? Resist of watching people without money trying to look like those who have money only to go broke and trying to borrow money. Money management is difficult within the community of young people as their to influence but people who bad habits.

Manage what? What you not getting or what you barely have? It's easy for politicians/others to say manage this and that when them don't have to worry if them have funds coming in!!

I get what I need, not what I want. If I have ten dollars, I spend five and save five. For one year I save all my loose change and at the end of the year I had over four thousand dollars that I put right into my account that help me to get through the lock down we had.

@Thank you Sir.. I agree with you for I do the EXACT same thing.. A Need is Always more important than a want.. some of us like to hang our hats where our hands can’t reach..some of us are training our children to only wear name brand (not that anything is wrong with this) but it can also send a negative message.. Also to this generation of children a lot of them all they know is “I want”..There are a lot of ways one can cut cost. My dad taught us that if we get 25 cents save 10 cents and if you see your way clear save 15 cents for a rainy day...Giving back to God Freely also helps you to receive Blessings. and Thanking Him for All that we have for it is His..some persons are too slothful..

I also only get what I need not what I want. I would rather cut back on certain things that I know is not important and put the money in my account for a rainy day. The same people that be calling me cheap is the same ones that don’t have a pot or a window to toss it out of that ride around flossing in expensive cars they cannot afford and is living up in mommy house oh yeah gets mad with me because I am not their personal ATM. I am 25 years old and by the time I turn 30, I plan to have my own home built on the piece of land that my grandfather blessed me with.

How can we manage when we don't have money and the government now calling for land tax. We've been closed since March where is this money coming from to pay the government and not buy food for your children and make sure you have internet for their school ?????

Don’t get upset with what I am going to say. I am going to disagree with your comment. I really don’t buy into the we don’t have money thing. Any given day people is out here spending money. There is money to be made in the BVI and ways to make money in the BVI. The problem is most of you let your pride get in the way, you are ashamed to be seen pushing a broom and mop folding clothes or serving Ice Cream. My grandmother always tell us never look down on any job that pays a honest dollar and you have to crawl before you walk.

The next wave will be of people who have been wearing these masks for long periods of time and breathing in the carbon dioxide that’s suppose to be exhaled not inhaled. By doing this, the sympathetic nervous systems goes into a fight or flight state that triggers the body to respond in different ways. The body will then release catecholamines, which include adrenaline and noradrenaline. This results in an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing rate. Once the immune system is exhausted, it becomes weak and when that happens the body is susceptible to catching different viruses, such as the cold, flu and corona virus which we are faced with now.
