FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — A man was shot just after midnight on Monday February 27, 2017 by an assailant who demanded money from his victims, [US] Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced.

Mr. Dratte said that at approximately 12:22 AM on Monday, the 911 emergency call center received notification of the shooting incident, which occurred in Water Gut near the shanty.

Upon arrival to the scene, police made contact with an individual sitting on a chair outside Morena’s Bar, who was shot in the upper body. The shooting victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency care, where hospital personnel were able to stabilise him, according to Mr. Dratte.

There were also other victims on the scene who were robbed of an undetermined amount of cash by the suspect, a Hispanic male, according to Mr. Dratte. The victims said they heard gunshots in the area, followed by the suspect, who demanded cash.

Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the VIPD’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211 on St. Croix, or send your information to Crime Stoppers USVI, where your tip may lead to a payday.
