BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- A man was rushed to Peebles Hospital with injuries following a shooting in Baughers Bay, on the main island of Tortola, this afternoon, July 13, 2016.

Police had cordoned off the area of the shooting.

Our newsroom had also been informed by hospital sources that the Peebles Hospital was briefly on “lockdown” after Mercer was rushed there for medical attention. This meant that persons were prevented from entering or leaving the facility, according to our sources.

BVI like we gone clear, Its time to clean up this place before it is too late me son; when you see man being gun down in day light its a sign that we are out of control. What next, the ministers will have to start rolling like the rest of the Caribbean...Tight security with M3.

Wow! But he from off the block in East. It's not too unusual for day time shooting here, its just getting a little more often if you ask me. You hardly hear of any accidental shooting, so most of the time its some beef with somebody that trigger off those things. Baugher's Bay around that big tree is and has always been a hot spot, its not the first time that such incident happen there.

Wishing the youths can take a different approach at life.... Its sad to see what is really happening to our Beautiful Virgin Islands.... I pray that Mr. Mercer has a speedy recovery and I pray that the violence ratings in the Virgin Islands decreases over time and we can all find a way to live in Peace and Love one more time...

Ps. Aching Hearts.... Broken Families....Lack of Loyalty n Trust.....Jah be with US!!

Why are we shooting our own people, who struggling like us. Who looking for jobs like us. Who get oppressed and victimized by the system like us. We need to figure out who frustrating us and making our lives hard.... We need to relax calm down and think of who is really the enemy.. We need to stop hating each other for petty stuff

Give these police guns then they going get trigger happy like the U.S police. We will have another set of problems on our hands because for all who don't like the police, they will then have the permission to take you out. Be careful what you wish for

just a follow up and it is not political: is it me or this community has fallen within the past 5 years; the cultural events went(no more farmer's week); the annual festival going down hill; the public library close; the school system is now questionable & saving the Sharks is now more important than saving our young people(the list goes on)

These guys just getting ridiculous now. I don't mind a few rounds bussing in the air every now and then but Tola don't have that much beef. These man just watching too much TV and trying to be like the US Virgin Islands. If man shooting high day, you know they don't have a job and not doing anything constructive. Our Police force is the opposite of them man in the states. In the states they go around looking for trouble (kill a few black guys in the process, but hey....). Around here, they sit back and let trouble happen. These man need to patrol our streets more often. I am not saying all day & night, but some random drive through(s) would help man. The Police's job is to not allow criminals to feel comfortable. I agree that we need to stop this now before it gets out of hand. We are not far from it....

Richie Spice said it in his song, 'In the streets it's getting hot and the youths them a get so cold cold cold, searching for food for the pot they do anything to fill the gap' and exactly this is what's going on

Great song, wrong message... The youths aint hungry. There are many options for those "youths" they just choose to live a lifestyle that they hear about in the music and tv shows that they are more focused on. Working a 9-5 and living a quiet life is boring and is not appealing to them. That street/thug/gangster gun toting, drug dealing, lots of women and attention having lifestyle is what they want and will do that by any means necessary.

@truth he was speaking about a specific counrty the conditions are not necessarily the same here. These youngmen could do better. A person from some where else could come here and get a job soon after even though they have to go through work permit and the like then we call them not" from here".

The police need to patrol more, ie.. Foot patrol, car patrol, whatever it takes. When you see a group of guys just hanging around in a spot all day, something is up. Yes, I do believe every police in the BVI should carry a gun. Tortola is out of control.

It's not the gun fault guns have been in tola for a while now I'm talking about thirty years or more it's the punishment or the out come am not saying hanging should be brought back to the bvi but let's start here there's a lot of prisons around the world just like tola they could change that to jump suit start sending the murders to a different island like Dominica and so forth or St Croix that has it so bad that prisoners are killing each other look all of us sit here and point fingers at the youth but a lot of time is our own family doing some of these crimes the best preacher in tola can not stop what going on only a matter of time some real bad cops in the place to lock it down and st,thomas and st Croix too but for now it's not much no one can really do but Sept up or shut up and if the problem continues get the the government out and as take back your community and stop the nonsense and the petty ness like killing a man because he Sept on your shoes let the USB bands play in tola, and let the tola band play in the usvi
