ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– Four goats that were allegedly in the habit of entering a private property in the Virgin Islands recently met their death by decapitation.

This was revealed by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) today, May 3, 2021.

“The owner of a goat herd reported that four of his goats were met decapitated in his front yard after admitting that his goats have been jumping the pen and entering his neighbour’s yard,” police said.

Police did not state the location where the incident occurred.

Increase in reports of dog attacks

The RVIPF, in the statement, said it is seeing an increase in reports of dog attacks and damage to property by animals, and is reminding owners of dogs and livestock of their responsibility under the law.

“This past week, three roaming pit bulls reportedly destroyed pieces of outdoor furniture, and attempted to enter the home of a resident in the Chalwell Estate area, while he was at home.

“On the same day in Long Look, a man showed officers the remains of his dead chickens after his neighbour’s four dogs had entered his property.”

Police said earlier in April, a woman was hospitalised after she was attacked by two dogs while walking in the Belmont Estate area, a story reported by this news site.

Criminal charges possible

Acting Deputy Commissioner St Clair Amory, according to the press release, is reminding the public that it is the responsibility of dog and livestock owners not only to register but to properly secure animals within the boundaries of their yard or property.

“Owners will be charged criminally for any attacks or damage to property as a result of their unrestrained animals.

“Similarly, persons found to be intentionally harming or setting poison out to harm or kill animals can also be charged and prosecuted under the Protection of Animals Act, Cap 94, sec 3 (1) (a) for cruelty to animal,” the Acting Deputy noted.

What about people whose livestock is fenced in. What is being done about dogs killing 1/2 or more of people livestock. What does the law say. And when it is reported no reimburstment. One sided community. Dogs coming into people's livestock pen and killing thousands of dollars of livestock. Wow. You all need to round up these stray dogs.

Isn't that the reason you have goats is to raise them for slaughter or for the milk? I don't get your point.

So wait. The cows that come every night and eat my bananas off my trees, shit up the yard, I can't do anything. That is so wrong. I can't get to eat anything that I plant. They eat them as soon as they start to bear. If they don't have enough land to keep the animals, they need to sell them to people do that will keep them fenced in.

At one point I recall it used to be said that, if you killed the animal on your property, the meat should be consumed. Basically, don't just kill, harm or maim the animal.

Not sure if it was the law tho.

If they come in your yard, take them, sell them or butcher them properly and eat and sell the meat. This is pure wickedness for a place that call itself built on Christian values.

The days of starvation not too far away.

Who knows how long these goats have been a nuisance. I’m not condoning the killing of the goats but animal owners need to be responsible, ESPECIALLY when livestock destroy people’s agriculture. Plants take time to grow and when crops are destroyed as a result of irresponsible livestock owners they should be made to pay for the destruction their animals cause.

The morrow of the story is.....keep your animals on your own property and respect your neighbors. They are sick of all of you disrespecting their property. Glad whoever did it, now you see how it feels to have your property destroyed. The owner was raising them to be slaughtered anyway, they just gave him a jump start. LMAO.

Yup, the man up Fahie Hill, who refuses to keep his cows in his yard even though he has been spoken to a million times by different persons in the community. He just let them roam and they walk for miles around the community eating whatever they can, it doesn't matter who yard they come upon, or the amount of time and money an individual has spent trying to plant food in their yard... he allows them to walk, eat and excrete...leaving their destruction behind. He just DOES NOT CARE and EVERYONE ELSE can go to hell with whatever they are saying....He from hey

DA Realist my friend found that using a can of spray paint on the cows worked really well getting the owner to keep them on his own land.

This is a saga that has been going on from the beginning of time. A famous songwriter, singer and lover of every Caribbean island from T/T to PR said in his book that the difference between a 3rd world country and a second was how it treated its animals. 3rd world countries allow their animals to run free, foul their streets with $hit and disappear quietly in the night, but it is used down to the last bone for consumption or profit. True farmers know the value of the animal and keep it under control, if not it’s value is lost. 2nd world country allows its animals to run freely and foul the streets with $shit. Farmers do a half a$$ job of controlling their herd and then complain when they go missing. Property owners kill roaming livestock out of spite or anger, and unfortunately a valuable asset is lost. Laws are written but rarely enforced so everyone loses, the farmer loses his profits, the homeowners lose their garden and the animal loses its life (ah the farmer was going to kill it anyway so don’t get all holy roller on how someone can just kill the animal) . Why can’t we be a first world country where farmers value their assets and manage them properly? Property owners should be allowed to protect their property from roaming animals but should not be allowed to just kill the animal and toss over the fence, if you kill it plan to process it or call someone who will. Shame on the government for even allowing this saga to continue, laws are on the books for animal control, there’s a department meant to enforce them, get off your a$$ and enforce them, this is quality of life we’re talking about both for humans and animals! It’s time for the people of the BVI and the world to do better by its animals, be responsible for a change!

We cant be talking tourism, 21centuary and the future of the territories with this animal nonsense from the 60's. Ask Elmo Stoutt about where them use to tie the donkey then!!

There was a time when it was o k - perhaps even legal - to do exactly what the "trespassee"did as cruel as it may now seem. I grew up in a pastoral community and I heard of many such cases. You had to impound trespassing cattle and other large animals but you could decapitate small stock such as sheep and goats. Perhaps decapitation is no longer allowed since enactment of legislation against cruelty to animals. There were and stll are , of course, other means of
dealing with trespassing animals one example being taking the owner(s) to court
