Man caught after escaping, asked officers to give him a break
It is alleged that on June 21, 2010 at Fat Hogs Bay, Lettsome unlawfully entered the dwelling place of Lynette Gordon and stole a Nokia Cell phone valued $275 and $40 cash belonging to another occupant of the said dwelling place.
It is also alleged that on November 30, 2010 at the East End Police Station, being in lawful custody, the defendant escaped from such custody.
When he appeared in the Magistrate Court on December 9, 2011, the prosecution stated that on June 21, 2010 the cell phone and cash, which was in a wallet, were placed under a mattress by Gordon’s son, however, on returning from school the said day, noticed the items were missing. It was then noticed that louvers from one of the windows of the home had been removed. Investigators were able to lift fingerprints from the scene of the investigation and on November 30, 2010 Lettsome was approached by police but he denied the crime.
It was further stated that police willingly took the finger prints of the defendant and they were subsequently found to match those lifted from Gordon’s home. Lettsome then reportedly told police “I used to be by that woman’s home with Rasheed (the call name for Gordon’s son).
Having been charged the defendant was being processed to put into the lockups and it was when he was told to take off his belt that he stood up and started to run out of the building. Officers reportedly gave chase but were unsuccessful in catching Lettsome. The court was then told that Lettsome was subsequently handed over to police by his father. Questioned about his reason for escaping custody Lettsome reportedly said he was just scared and felt confused. “Man you could give me a break”, he reportedly told police.
The crown noted that statements were still outstanding and the matter was adjourned to January 9, 2012.
