ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With Virgin Islander Darier Malone continuing her hot hitting streak the Lady Royals softball team wrapped up their regular season with a conference double header at Daly Field on Saturday, April 26, 2014 against the Lady Night Hawks of Thomas University (Ga.).

The Lady Royals came into the game with a 15-19 overall record and a 7-7 Sun Conference record. After dropping game one, the Lady Royals bounced back to win game two and split the series 1-1.

The Lady Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game one. Darier Malone continued her hot hitting streak with a triple and then crossed home plate on a Tiffany Porter single. Hayley Padgett and Stefani Bonilla both had RBI singles in the first as well.

Senior, Lindsey Martin (2-2) got the ball in the circle in game one. After retiring the side in order during her first two innings of work, Martin began to struggle as the Lady Royals allowed three runs in the third and four in the fourth. Martin went three complete and allowed six runs on five hits. Nicolette Wunderly tossed four innings of relief work and allowed one run on three hits while striking out two.

Stefani Bonilla went 3-for-4 in game one, while Darier Malone went 2-for-4. The Lady Royals offense combined for 10 hits off seven bats.

In game two the Lady Royals, again, got on the board first in the opening inning. Stefani Bonilla put a ball in play to plate Virgin Islander Jelissa Potter. The Lady Night Hawks answered back with two runs in the second and a run in the third for a 3-1 lead.

In the fourth inning the Lady Royals rallied to score three runs and regain the lead 4-3. Potter singled to score Yalieen Milian and then Darier Malone hit a two-run double to left center as Warner jumped back into the driver's seat.

Another RBI single from Potter in the sixth gave the Lady Royals an insurance run. Starting pitcher, Chelsie Valentine shut out the Lady Night Hawks in the seventh, retiring the side in order to help seal the 5-3 victory. Valentine earned her ninth win of the season and allowed three runs. Valentine scattered six hits and struck out three as she went the distance in game two.

Jelissa Potter went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs in game two, while Shannon Caltado went 2-for-3. Darier Malone went 1-for-3 and has recorded at least one hit in the Lady Royals last four games.

The Lady Royal finished the regular season with a 16-20 overall record and an 8-8 Sun Conference record. The team has secured a spot in the post-season tournament that began on May 1, 2014 at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
