M.A.L.E members challenged to read & stay in church
The programme is led by Minister Henderson Tittle and supported by a team of leaders and mentors.
It was not a session of long lectures and boring speeches but an afternoon when the young men interacted with accomplished businessmen and women who all told them of the influences going to church had on their lives resulting in them being as successful as they are today.
Those mentors were Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3), Dr. Heskith Vanterpool, Mr C. Michael Thomas and wife and Attorney at Law Ms Ayana S. Hull.
They had all collaborated to donate seventy five (75) books to the MALE club. The book is ‘The Pentateuch – My First Hunt for the Holy Scriptures’ which was recently authored by Ms Hull.
"You don't have to worry about things people 20 years had to worry about....I can see how much better things have gotten for young people your age. These kinds of facilities you have we never had,” Hon Fraser told the young men during a brief pep talk in advance of the presentation.
When Dr Vanterpool took the young men down a journey back in time when he was growing up as a young man their age. There were bursts of laughter when they heard of his many days wearing pants torn in the butt.
"Today I see you guys cutting holes on the knees of your pants as a fashion statement but we had holes on our pants at the butt but not as a fashion,” he recalled.
But the essence of his message to them boiled down to the biblical principles that he was made to absorb and key to doing so was to read.
He also told them to make good of the opportunity at free education as he praised the government of his boyhood days which in those days made secondary education free and later provided scholarships for both college and university.
"Not every country in those day had free high school. You had to pay to go to high school so we thank God for the government of those days… they made high school free for us and we have to be thankful for that,” he said to a loud rounds of applause.
"Books will make a big difference in your life," he added.
Ms Hull also had challenged them to read as she promised to pop up on them at times to see how much they would have read and learnt.
They were also touched by the few words of businessman Clarence Michael Thomas. Mr Thomas said that consequent of his involvement in the book drive for the M.A.L.E. programme he has had discussions with his siblings and other close family members and they have all agreed that they are going to further invest in the programme from the level of the Clarence Thomas business.
"Nothing good comes easy,” he told them as he also challenged the young men to find their rooting in church and to do lots of reading.

A whole lot of nothing! If you all really want to help the youth! Tell them the truth and let them make their own decision. There isn't any God up in the sky, and to encourage boys who will soon be young men to go sit down and listen to these Nancy stories is crazy!
