Magistrate tells Leon King to 'get house in order'
Attorney at law Richard Rowe indicated that he had received no instructions from Mr Leon King when the defendant’s matter was called in the Magistrate’s Court on June 19, 2013. Rowe had told the court in April that he had received the relevant documents but no approach was made to the law firm since.
King, 32, pleaded not guilty to acquisition, possession or use of the proceeds of criminal conduct which was allegedly committed on January 24, 2012. The offence allegedly occurred near Frenchman’s Cay on a small vessel named "Overeasy". He was initially granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with a cash component of $100,000. Bail was later reduced to $40, 000.
The defendant is currently remanded to prison on similar but unrelated charges which were made following his alleged involvement in a drug bust in August, 2012 while he was on bail.
Rowe stated that the defendant had undertaken to approach his law firm, Orion Law, with a view to addressing how he wished to proceed. He was previously represented by attorney, Herbert McKenzie; McKenzie has since parted ways with Orion Law.
Under the circumstances, Rowe requested that a later date be set for the cross-examination of any witnesses in the matter since the trial had begun previously.
