Magistrate orders DR national to return home

The DR national appeared in court yesterday where she was ordered to to be returned to her homeland.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A Dominican Republic national, who was arrested for entering the Territory without permission from an Immigration Officer was ordered to return to her homeland when she appeared before Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens yesterday December 5, 2011.

The magistrate, through an interpreter, informed Rosa Garo Cuevas that she could apply a custodial sentence or a fine of $1000 but she was taking into consideration the fact that the defendant pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, what she had told the court, and her “particular circumstances”.

She also said she was going to treat the time that she was in custody as time served. The woman was arrested since November 11, 2011.

Magistrate Stephens then told the defendant that she had no status in the Territory and would have to be returned to her homeland and would remain in custody until Wednesday, December 7, 2011 when Immigration Authorities can arrange a flight to take her home.
