CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI- Having already won the first two legs of the V.I. Triple Tiara Divas Classic, Stephen Got Better seemed poised for a clean sweep but it was not to be as the horse failed to finish while Mae Ruler took the unexpected victory at Clinton E. Phipps Racetrack in St Thomas, USVI on Sunday December 8, 2013.
Mae Ruler also captured the $8000 purse for the victory over the distance of 1 Mile, 70 yards. Selena's So Mad trotted in second. Stephen Got Better fell and lost her jockey.
The other big race of the day, which was also the final race of the day and which fetched a purse of $4,500, was the Open Mile race. Swaggy Daddy of the Alliance Point Stables romped home in 141 flat ahead of Prince of Speed who was second and Edge Ahead. Sweet Sight, Break up the Game and Town Hall (Tortola) were scratched.
The three Tortola horses expected to participate did not make the trip to St Thomas.
In other races, La Nina W defeated More Current and Silver Dollar over one mile for the $3,500 purse in the Maiden/Native Bred classic.
In Race 2, a one-mile battle for Class D Horses for $3,500, Benny Southstreet whipped Willa Bella, Weir's Gap and Espectacular Way, who finished in that order.
Race 3 belonged to Daddy's Dream with Charlie the Runner coming home second and What's Poppin' third. Angel's Rock did not finish while Tortola's Good Boy Daddy was scratched.
Race 4, for Class B and C Horses, was run over 1 mile and 40 yards for a $4,000 purse and it was Twisted Dream who ran away with the money ahead of Schatt the Bandit, Tiger Glider and Mr Gold Prospect. Square One of Tortola and Warrior's Cove were scratched.
Meanwhile, the Kids Derby III Champion of Champions was not run off due to a wet track.
