M. Elton Georges remembered at Diabetes Awareness Run/Walk
Mr Georges, was not a diabetic, but served with distinction in the association for over a decade, advocating for healthier living and more funding and support for the BVI Diabetes Association.
The former Deputy Governor and Complaints Commissioner passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at age 75.
This is the second year that the run/walk was fitting held in his memory.
More than 50 persons turned up at Queen Elizabeth II Park, some before 5:00am, to take part in the run/walk from the QE II Park to Ebenezer Thomas Primary School in Sea Cows Bay, Tortola, and returned to QE II Park.
President of the BVI Diabetes Association, Mrs Jean E. Vanterpool used the opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes and the work of the association in the territory.
Daughter of the late Mr Georges, Noni M. Georges was also part of the run/walk and later said her father was always committed to his work with the association and would have been pleased with the run/walk.
“He would have been the first to show up this morning and the first to have breakfast,” Ms Georges said.
Following the run there was a health talk by Dr Sharlon Lewis of the Wellness Center Medical Clinic and Zumba ‘for beginners’ by Doneisha D. Maduro-Findlay.
The event received good support from the business community, including, Roadtown Wholesale, CCT, Blu Water and One Mart.
