GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke VI - Jost van Dyke resident Mr. Lucien “Claude” Callwood is the latest recipient of the Ministry of Health and Social Development’s social home as part of its Housing Recovery Assistance Programme.

The handover came on the heels of another handover to Mr. Dalvin Callwood also of Jost van Dyke last month.

On the scene was Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) who stated that the handover was his second in Jost van Dyke since he became the Minster and thanked the team at the Ministry for its dedicated work in ensuring residents on the Sister Islands get the help they need.

“I must thank the contractor, my team at the Ministry and Project Manager Mr. Marquese Maduro. For us, this is another project that has been well, executed in a timely fashion. I must say, even though they build these houses very quickly, they do not compromise on quality and standards. It shows our continued commitment to ensure the persons who were displaced by the hurricanes find a haven,” he detailed.

In addition, Second District Representative Honourable Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) noted the Ministry of Health and Social Development has been diligent in using the Housing Recovery Assistance Programme to assist residents of Jost van Dyke who lost their homes during the 2017 hurricanes.

Honourable Turnbull said, “This has been the fifth house that has now been built on Jost Van Dyke for residents who have been displaced and I want to congratulate Mr. Claude Callwood on his house.”

Honourable Turnbull congratulated the contractor and his team and applauded the team at the Ministry of Health and Social Development for its diligence in executing these projects and making the people from Jost van Dyke comfortable in an environment that can withstand hurricanes and be safe.

Mr. Callwood thanked the Ministry of Health for making it possible for him to get a home and stated that he was grateful for the assistance.

Meanwhile, contractor Chad Skelton from Construction Engineering Systems (B.V.I) Ltd said it was an honour working with the Ministry of Health and Social Development to provide Mr. Callwood with a nice home.

Giving away the social security money AGAIN. This man lived in the US, now collecting social security from there. Running taxi and owning a after work vehicle. What is his social contributions to the government , taxes, social, NHI as an independent person???? More BS!!

To me the VIP Government has done more for JVD than any other government in recent years. They have built a few homes on JVD for those in need. They have paved new roads. They have resurfaced old roads. They are building a new beautiful modern public school facility. They have built a new modern public port facility. They have repaired the Government Administration building that was destroyed by Irma and named it after a stalwart of JVD and the entire BVI. All this and more and Mitch speaks as if the government has done nothing for JVD and have victimized him. Mitch is a dangerous man. He has loss his way. He is only out for mischief and destruction. What is clear is if he is not in charge then he feels nothing will ever be done correctly or with integrity. He is about power. I will never vote for him anymore. He has loss his way.

Imagine the government has already built five homes for people in need on JVD and yet the Opposition says the government is doing nothing and does not care about the people who are homeless or whose home are in shambles after the hurricanes of 2017 where the same opposition was in government then and did nothing to help the same people. What a set of wicked people.

It is clear Mitch speaks out of two sides of his mouth. He walked out of the House of Assembly because he did not want anything to do with the government as he said they are no good but yet when they help the people of his district he runs come to look good with the same "no good" government he is killing and takes a picture with them so he can try to fool the people of his district that it is him working for them and not the government. He cannot have it both ways. He needs to stop living a life of deception.

I jump on the VIP government when I have to but I must commend them for this ongoing initiative. Many homeless people and people in need have benefited from it.

Please build these building to accommodate the aged and limitations that comes naturally as we age. I would suggest building with a ramp and wheelchair accessibility especially in the bathroom.
