Lucian Stars shine, New Boy Rattigan nets 3 inside 11 minutes!
Rattigan, one of three or four new signings the Lucian Stars had promised to bolster their title chances started his goal fest in just the 5th minute and by then the Stars were already 1-0 up.
Thomas Albert had rocked the Old Madrid defense in just the 4th minute and from then on the rest of the match well and truly belonged to the boys from VG.
Rattigan and his team mates tore into old Madrid almost at will, carving vast holes in the shaky defense and quickly shutting down any chance of the Madrid team launching counter attacks.
After his opening strike, Rattigan scored his second on 8 minutes and completed his hatrick inside 11 minutes with a calmly taken penalty giving Cleve Dowling in goal no chance.
His 4th came on 27 minutes and his 5th at the stroke of half time after Albert had scored his second to leave Madrid shell shocked and the Stars leading 7-1.Garnett Feron had scored for Old Madrid against the run of play in the 21st minute. He was first to the ball, after a mistake at the back left ‘keeper Benjamin Camille stranded, firing home the loose ball from close range following good work from Clifton James.
How different from the Stars last game on the AOS when they had sat resigned on the bench, with only seven men and nearly refused to play the second half at the break against VG United.
Rattigan was substituted at half time, but as he explained he wasn’t tired from playing his first game, but was taking precautions against further aggravating a sore shoulder.
“I’m not tired, but fell heavily on my shoulder so needed to rest it. I want to see my team playing as it’s my first time playing with them. I’m glad for the opportunity to play and it’s a wonderful experience. I scored five good goals, but the last one stands out the most. I intended to pass to one of my team mates, but it deflected off the defender and bounced right back to me so I slotted home inside the right hand post.”
In the second half and despite the Madrid players battling back into the game and creating several good chances it took the Stars just 3 minutes to add to their score.
Leslie Sheppard beating Hanif James, who had replaced Dowling in goal from 12 yards out. The ninth came from the boot of Romauld Reynold in the 61st minute and the 10th arrived courtesy of Jeenian Henry in the 70th.
Brad Reme made it 11 on 81 minutes and to round things off Bradley Henry scored the 12th on 86 minutes.
