ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A back-to-school drive hosted by Luce D. Hodge-Smith in the Fourth District was well received by students and parents, Mrs Smith has told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).

The drive, which was able to provide school supplies in the areas of Long Bush and Lowest Estate, took the form of a house-to-house distribution where children were provided with bags filled with school supplies including books, pencils, face masks, rulers, sharpeners, face masks, and hand sanitisers.

"The response was great, they were very appreciative. We tried to reach as many students as I possibly could reach so it was over 300 actually," she said.

Staying connected to D4! - Ms Hodge-Smtih

Mrs Hodge-Smith related that drive was not only to help the students but to do her part in staying connected with the district and its needs.

"It was well-received", she further told VINO while thanking her contributors for stepping forward and doing their part to make the programme a success.

Some of the companies who supported included Bazz Natural Juices, Manuel Reef Marina, Bobby's Marketplace, Pooky's Customs Unlimited, Dareo's Jerk Centre, and Deputy Speaker Hon Neville A. Smtih (AL).

In addition to the school supplies, students also received a personalised message via a greeting card with sponsors that encouraged them to stay focused, study hard, and complete their homework.

To top it off, they were given well wishes for a successful 2021/2021 school term.

My dear. I wish you the best. Keeping doing good. This is your time...I am not sure if VIP at this time is the right choice. And please when you win do not accept no bank benching position, do all you can to get a ministry, U been in culture too long, thats your port folio, tired of these women with no courage, no fight sitting comfortable as a back bencher been satisfied with a salary, men has failed us.. Women in parliament need to get courage, get brave, step up and make a difference...I would like to see Culture and tourism fall under the same ministry, they go well together.. Its dictator ship to have Ministry of finance and tourism under one ministry, What we have is one minister controlling the entire economy of a country..not good.. I would have add Tourism to Carvin, He is a natural in that position....

May our future contenders remember that District 4 consists of a lot of other areas. Sadly, for twenty years Lower Estate and Long Bush received attention while everyone else in the district have had to fend for themselves.
