ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Commissioner of Police Mark Collins says the suspect has been arrested and charged following the October 12, 2022, revelation of a distraught caller on a morning radio show who bitterly complained of an alleged bullying incident involving her son and another student at a local school.

After complaining of poor handling of the incident by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), the mother had also taken to social media for more traction.

She claimed weapons such as knives, brass knuckles, and broken bottles were used to bully her son.

The frustrated mother revealed that her son was badly injured by the alleged bully and she even has a medical report from the hospital to show.

Many on social media have expressed sympathy to the mother and son and called for the alleged bully to be dealt with swiftly by authorities.

Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) Commissioner of Police, Mr Collins confirmed the suspect in the attacks has been arrested and charged.

Community policing programme will take effect - ToP CoP

He also indicated that officials at the school have been contacted and the mother updated on the way forward.

“Part of our community policing programme has officers going into schools. I have also spoken at the High School, along with some of my officers,” the Top Cop said when pressed on what further action will be taken by the RVIPF.

CoP Collins also indicated that the force intends to investigate all allegations of bullying in schools.

Following alleged non-action by the police over the issue, the distraught mother was forced to take to both social media, and the popular ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show with host Floyd Burnett on Tola Radio 100.5FM to bring awareness to her concerns.

The alleged bullying incidents come as the Virgin Islands will be observing Anti-Bullying Week later this month.

They only took action AFTER the mother made a post on facebook and called the radio show. From what she said, the police nor the Ministry of Education was taking her seriously. This is very disturbing and it makes one wonder if they take unsolved murders seriously or does the public have to make facebook posts and call in to the radio in order to have them look into the cases.

So if the mother hadn't call the talk show, the police would still be sitting on their thumbs up their A**

I would encourage the mother to sue the police for negligence. The fact that they were able to arrest and charge the bully ONLY AFTER the child suffered more injury to the extent that the mother had to be on social media and the radio show says plenty about the fact that they failed her in the first place. They have a duty to take care, protect and serve. They breached their duty that is evidenced by the mother having to take further steps to call them constantly and complain, which they did not take any further action. The mother's son has suffered terrible injuries as a direct cause of the failure of the police to intervene which was foreseeable in all circumstances because we are dealing with a bully here. The police should PAY!!!!! The mother should never had to endure this after she followed the correct procedure. Then they want to know why people take things into their own hands. The police is a failure and until they start to PAY, they will forever be a FAILURE! AND NEGLIGENT...Grossly Negligent for that cause.

No. The education system is responsible for our children monday to friday 830 to 330. They are to blame. She need to sue them not the police. All I know them better take bullying seriously because when my son ready to start ES and any bully approach my child it won't be nice. Parents need to get involve with these children and stop being afraid of them.

Good job eventually by the Royal Police Force. Its a good thing that parent put her feet down and never give up.
I hope that bully learned a good lesson. There is a lot more out there like him that need to be dealt with.

It's a damn shame that this parent had to come online and complain about the lack of urgency shown by those in authority and by the Police for them to do their job. Could you imagine if she did not, and her child ended up seriously injured the next time these bullies attack? Parents also need to be held accountable for their underage child's antisocial behaviour - many of whom are aware but give the "that's how he/she is from they young" as if that makes it okay.

The person being bullied just need to make a report or do what the mother did.. a bully is a bully no matter how young or old ..in school or out of school..teacher or student...in the office or on the street. They all need to be dealt with, because some of us deserve to protect our peace of mind.

Kudos to the RVIPF, bullying in schools is a very serious thing. My 12 year old niece died because of bullying in the UK. This cancer must stop and 9 times out of 10 its what the kids see their parents do, it starts at home...Sad

Former MoE made it more difficult to expel violent children.

If not for social media, I doubt anything would have been done. Imo when weapons start getting involved it's not simply bullying anymore. Shame on the school and police station for not acting sooner.

The bully's parents should be made to pay the victims medical bills and any other damages that were inflicted upon him.

Both his parents are lost cases I know them personally. Mother a smoke head, father same plus he drinks. Take it from me when I say that boy's life started out wrong & continues on the same path. He skips school, is an F student, likes to fight & show himself. He has zero stability at home. Trying to reason with his mother is like talking to brick wall, don't even waste your breath.

These parents in the BVI leave their children to do whatever they want. I was driving last night heading home 8-something children over the road at kettle gas station area. What are they doing on the road wondering around on a school night. The walk across the road without even looking to see if any vehicle is coming, when you blow your horn they watch you like the want kill you and they are in the wrong. Blame the parents for these type of things.

I am extremely happy and the reason for this is that all of our voices were heard and made an impact along with the mothers action to bring this story to light.
We all have to give ourselves a tap on the shoulder for assistance into this matter. Thank you everyone for your compassion, voice and I hope the mother of this child is reading all the love that is pouring in.

Yet they are putting plans into place and making the school bigger .. split that shit up... hence the reason my child is being taught self defense, problem control, how to walk away and and when to use training to defend self....
I the lady and her family should have picked up this bully and give him a beating of his life.... biggest high school in history ... don't make sense
