ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In a move that many in the Territory have described as sad, sexist, and a step backwards in our development, UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce has demoted the current Acting Commissioner of Police, Jacqueline E. Vanterpool. He has given no official reasons.

Ms Vanterpool, a local and very qualified for the post, has acted for over a year and has received great reviews from the public, civil society, the media, fellow police officers and even, at one point, the same Governor.

The Police Service Commission (PoSC) has already rejected the demotion and has, in fact, recommended Ms Vanterpool to be the Commissioner of Police (CoP).

With no regard for law and order or the process, Mr Pruce has not accepted the recommendation and has used section 97 (2) of the Constitution that gives him discretion. The recent Commission of Inquiry (CoI) sought to strip discretion from the local democratically elected Government, but left it with the unelected Governor. This is another area that has undermined the legitimacy of the CoI report.

Another controversial appointment

Now, Mr Pruce has announced the assigning of a controversial retired police officer in the name of Richard Ullger, to be the Acting Commissioner. While those who have reached 65 in the Virgin Islands are forced to retire, a retired UK National is being made Interim CoP.  Mr Ullger is to start his new assignment on November 18, 2025.

Mr Ullger has a controversial past after being under investigation, according to media reports in Gibraltar, by the National Crime Agency for allegedly sharing sensitive information with the wife of a defendant.

The former Police Commissioner Mark Collis, another UK National, got away with some 55 charges brought against him by his own police officers. He was believed to be a part of a witch-hunt going after local residents to be arrested and charged, with little or no evidence coming out of the CoI hypocrisy.

Many critics have claimed that Mr Pruce should be investigated or recalled for his interference in the PoSC process and his lack of commitment to good governance, transparency and the rule of law.

Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is to address the matters in a Press Conference today.

Allowing a criminal to head such an important post is a weakness of our premier, government and people who won't stand up an be heard. This is atrocious British Virgin Islanders. If we don't stand for something, we will fall for anything and everything. The governor should be ashamed of himself! I have no hope in the system.

In reference to the topic issue, disgruntled CoP, Jakie Vanterpool has done her best, I believe, but her best was not good enough to stem the tide of rising violent crimes happening in the B.V.I over the recent years ongoing.
We the people of the B.V.I need to accept the facts of life, not to be bent by our emotional wish and egotistic pride.
It is simple to understand to all that forceful method, and highly skillful modern technologies are needed to help combat the voilent criminal activities ongoing in the BVI. Political and local sympathy fall well short of this goal.

Don't judge the newly appointed CoP without evidence because some people choice did not get what was their heart''s desire. Accept our political defense leader,Governor, Daniel Pruce choice, support the RVIPF, but only when they are right, and let's fight together as one against all crimes, especially deadly crimes of murder of our citizens, and others that are living among us.

Welcome to the newly appointed CoP.

we talk to much there are certain things we can change but those things we can not change simply live with it

after all the chatter via podcast, facebook, pocketbook and desktop talk shows the Milkman is in our house

there is not one thing our people can do about it and when his 2 year up another European will sit in that office

Start asking the UK for more help and see how quick she turn you loose(ask them to help with the lack of public water, more responsibility to patrol the territory sea water and fix the public highways

Daniel Pruce is a Persona Non Grata and should exit our country. Any person who cannot accept the processes of Governing should not be allowed in our country. Put him on the same plane that brings Ullger.

He or she does the courage, conviction, confidence, etc., to use their own name to say the quiet part out loud. The BVI is in a royal mess; it is reaping the dividends of its shortsightedness, lack of focus, hope for things to go well vice taking action to put things and desired positive outcome on the right course.

People, think before you speak and clean up your households. We, the Black community, are responsible for Mrs. Vanterpool’s departure. We continue to raise up and support these criminals. Before children can read, walk, or write, the first things we do are pierce little boys’ ears, put Nike shoes on them before they can crawl, and hang big Gucci chains around their necks.

Adding fuel to the fire, schools around the BVI have boys looking either like gangsters or females because of those stupid plaited (braided) hairstyles. We are the ones to be blamed, not the Governor. Use your common sense before you post and connect the dots — it’s Black people stealing from our own brothers, sisters, mothers, and grandparents. They are the ones you should be talking about and marching against — this madness is what got our Commissioner fired.

@Say one! say two! So Nike sneakers and Gucci Chains are the pre- requisite for becoming a criminal. So if the sneakers came from Payless or Walmart what would be the outcome. Moral, good upbringings, respect, kindness, etc. is what is what our children need to learn. Their hair and clothing dies not determine if they are going to be criminals or not. I suggest we start with the churches a lot are in there ... Let that marinate... The end

As long as we're a territory of the UK, they will do what is in their best interest. If we want self-autonomy, we must sever ties with the UK.

would beat the crap out of that foreigner in front of his armed squad and they dare not fire a shot. This is how far we have fallen and owe it to our politicians and greedy wolf in sheep clothing businessmen who hijacked our media holding us to ransom for decades. What is playing out in this country is serious deep seated anger. You can appoint Jesus Christ as Police Commissioner but things will get progressively worse. This country was built on wickedness from both the colonizers and locals we are in for serious judgement. Shoot the spirit or lock it up in Balsam Ghut setta clowns.

With the high level of drugs and weapon importation at present, perhaps the Governor could explain why his high ranking uk staff believe that the same rules that apply to us mere mortals don't apply to them.

Who vets the governor and his staff along with the uk police officers?

The current actions of the UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce aka snake in the grass, is a resulted of the shortsighted unilateral power provided under the latest 2007 constitution. Our negotiation team failed massively. Who was the chairperson of the constitutional review committee?

Further, this is what happened to a non-self governing territory such as the BVI. This is what happens when a people blindly appease colonialism and colonialists action, ie, Neville Chamberlain type behavior. This is what happened with Benedict Arnold like behavior. This is what happened when a people let themselves get afflicted with the Stockholm Syndrome. When is the BVI going to get a spine and fight, fight, fight, strike, strike, strike…We need to let go and get out of strangling dependency mode. What is the choice? We can continue behaving like a physical and mentally enslaved people or we can pursue self-determination, independence, integration, Independence, etc. It is time to shed the William Lynch aka Willie Lynch philosophy which is still keeping us in bondage under the colonialists at Mount Olympus. Enough talk already about self-determination. Here is a news flash . The UK cannot stop the VI from pursuing self-determination. $hit or get off the poe. Others have spoken establishing a public education and outreaching programme on self-determination before holding a referendum. Fine. Leh us geh ah dun maison. Gese sum bred mon. If the current lot lacked the courage to geh ur dun, let’s find a crew who can. It is time for action. If the action with Ms. Jacqueline Vanterpool does not spur her into action. Ms. Vanterpool is the martyr for the cause, our awakening. Colonialism like a leopard has not change its spots. Do not be fool by its chameleon behavior. It is still racist, caste driven, controlling, exclusionary, social Darwinism favoring, etc. Colonialism wheels are turning slowly but its still turning. Like the rattler when engaged, let’s strike, strike, strike and strike again.

Another caucasian "put" to the head in a black country. With all the black countries available and also qualified locals, they continue to place UK caucasian to the top. The governor seat needs to be voted in and not appointed. Their are qualified BVI landers that can hold that position and be better at it. We the people need to look out for our country and avoid dictatorship. Training and mentorship.
