Local entrepreneur creates doll exclusively for Ms BVI pageant winner
The Tortola native, who hails from Pockwood Pond, said she was inspired by her daughter to design and create the doll for this year’s Ms BVI Pageant. The doll, a neatly knitted and well-designed stuffed creation, comes complete with a Ms BVI 2012 sash, earrings and tiara.
Daniel expressed that this wasn’t the first time she had created dolls for a pageant as she had in the past designed and put together dolls for previous Ms. Caribbean World Pageants. She noted, however, that this was the first time she had ventured to design and create one for the Ms. BVI Pageant winner who would be presented with it immediately after the show.
Commenting on the reason for doing this type of creative piece, Daniel said that it was important that persons could “take away something from the BVI whenever they come here”. The doll done for the Ms. BVI pageant was a collaborative effort between herself and her daughter. She revealed, stating that her daughter worked on the hands and feet while she did the remainder of the body.
Asked about the reaction to her previous presentations of this nature she said, “people were very pleased and happy about it”. She also stated that her project is completely voluntary and she does not request or receive any compensation for it since she loves doing this sort of thing.
Ms Daniel added that, “the BVI has talent, people want to give back, to put a smile on others’ faces” in doing projects of this nature.
She concluded by wishing the contestants the very best of luck and adding that they should first and foremost, enjoy themselves to the maximum.
This news agency also spoke with Ms. Alesia Hamm, Chairperson of the Ms BVI Pageant Committee and coordinator of the event, about Ms Daniel’s contribution. She applauded her effort, noting that “It’s a really good idea” especially so since, “it was created from scratch”. She felt that anyone who would take the time to do something like that showed “very good initiative” taken from her heart.
The pageant queens, who had received the dolls in the past she mentioned, have always been appreciative.
With regard to the Pageant preparations for tomorrow night’s, August 5, 2012 event, she said that everything was on the right track. She added that the contestants were all excited and everyone was looking forward to putting on a good show.
The five contestants slated to be in the Ms BVI Pageant are Lavanta Thompson, Michelle Parsons, Latoya Donovan, Ana Christina John and Sharie deCastro.
