BELLE VUE, Tortola, VI - Local Businessman Chad George of Alpha Energy Solutions have teamed up with Green VI to donate solar-powered lights to the school as part of a wider project to adopt green energy solutions in the VI and reduce the energy load of the school.

“This initiative came about when we at Alpha Energy Solutions did an energy audit, and in conducting an energy audit, we saw where we could have contributed to our community by giving back to the school and this is something we were told is very useful,” Mr George said in an interview with the media on April 9, 2024.

“I truly believe if everybody could give a little, a little could take us a very long way if you just do it consistently, and that's basically what we want to do here at Alpha Energy Solutions,” he said.

Mr George added that it was a great privilege to give back to the school and that it is about community service and giving back along with putting one’s best foot forward.

He also shared his enthusiasm to be able to do more giving back as the school's principal thanked the company and Green VI for the initiative.

Smart school initiative

The programme is through a collaboration with Green VI's Smart School initiative where Green VI used Alpha Energy to conduct an energy audit and as a result, Alpha Energy saw the need to donate the solar lights.

Meanwhile, Ms Charlotte McDevitt, Executive Director of Green VI said the organization is working with 14 VI public schools to make them as resilient as possible with partners including the Department of Disaster Management and the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) with each of the partners bringing their own programme.

Green VI’s has an overall vision for the VI to be a green, clean, healthy, and prosperous BVI, where the well-being of the people is of primary importance and a balance is maintained between the conservation of the natural environment and development.

Ms McDevitt said more initiatives will come to schools through Green VI including recycling bins, mosquito traps and data collection, garden programmes and more energy audits along with a drinking water project.

Please replace the word "equipt" in the caption. The correct word is "equip".... school children read these news articles and therefore need to know what is gramatically correct.

Kudos to this young man! Prioritising education and our schools is the only true path to success for this Territory. While our politricksters blame beauracracy and the COI, this is proof that with a little innovative thought and a REAL desire to see improvement, small stesp can make a big change.
