‘Like they all fraud’- Fisherman still waiting on NDP campaign promise
In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online on Thursday September 22, 2016, Farrington said to make matters even worse it appears that there is a selection of persons the National Democratic Party (NDP) government has chosen to stretch out its hands to and he may very well not be among them.
“I don’t know what them guys doing, seems like they all fraud, they just go in and tell you they going to help you and then they blow you under the mat like dirt,” he lamented.
Farrington believes the acquiring of the boat would help to make a difference in the community, especially among young persons.
“It would have improved my life a lot because I love fishing and I could go fishing, it has some other young boys in the neighbourhood who are doing nothing, who I could take them up and teach them a lot about fishing. So it would benefit me and a lot of people.”
According to the self-employed bush cutter, the boat is going at a deal of $4,500 and after several attempts to follow up with the promised help only landed him $300 in August of this year.
“Three hundred can’t help me,” he bemoaned.
Farrington said the boat that he intends to buy is sitting on the side of the road getting old and day by day he is becoming more and more depressed.
“I would like them to help me because I need help.”
The man told this news site that one of the elected representatives he spoke to on the matter and who promised to help him is Junior Minister for Tourism and At Large Representative Hon Archibald C. Christian.
Hon Christian did not respond to our calls and texts up to time of publication.

On a lighter not why doesn't the guy make a deal with the boat owner if it's just sitting there to repay them as he sells his fish to the complex or is it just a fishing expedition for a free boat
1. You might wish to secure funding through a bank loan or assistance from family members. You will then be able to pay back in reasonable amounts from your earnings.
2. Perhaps, you may wish to go to the Department of Trade for guidance on avenues for financing and sustaining your business.
3. If my memory serves me well, a few years ago a resident billionaire offered a programme to assist persons who wished to start small businesses. If it is still available, not only would you have access to a soft loan but invaluable business know-how as well.
4. If that boat is just sitting on the side of the road deteriorating, would it not be in the owner's interest to let you have it and pay him in installments? You should try to make some arrangement with him. However, this would require much trust in you to honour your side of the bargain and repay as per your agreement. Are you someone whom he should trust, or would you give him some excuse or run-around after you have been given the boat as to why you cannot find the money to pay him?
You strike me as being an enthusiastic young man, brimming with ideas. Though, you should sit and assess what you can or cannot reasonably achieve in the near future. A chat with some of the older fisherfolk or persons at the Fisheries Department or Conservation and Fisheries can be of much help to you.
In future, do not weigh your vote on a promise.
I wish you all the best!
it is well thought out and actually advises how to proceed and not just unload comments that are of no help.
My hat is off to you sir or Madam!

If the NDP didn't promise the gentleman the money for a vote I don't think he would looking for the payback.
